We are accelerating the delivery of large housing sites across the country and paving the way for the next generation of new towns. Our Plan for Change will build 1.5 million new homes to buy and rent and kickstart economic growth.

This Labour government is determined to deliver the biggest increase in social and affordable housebuilding in a generation.

💥FANTASTIC NEWS💥 @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social The Right to Manage Statutory Instrument will be laid in parliament on Monday, and will come in to effect from 3rd March 2025 #LeaseholdScandal @cathnlc.bsky.social www.gov.uk/government/n...

The government is determined to drive a transformational and lasting change in the safety and quality of social housing. We have today set out details of how we plan to bring Awaab’s Law into force in the social rented sector 👇🏻 questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-stat...

I warmly welcome the council’s decision to reconsider the proposed decommissioning of Charlton’s much-loved Maryon Wilson Animal Park. The authority’s finances are under enormous pressure but I commend Cllr Anthony Okereke for listening and responding to the concerns of local residents.

We must remember, both as a mark of respect to those who were lost and those who survived, and as a warning about what happens when antisemitism, prejudice and hatred are allowed to flourish unchecked. An honour to sign the Holocaust Educational Trust book of commitment today.

Yesterday the Chancellor touched on where we intend to go next on planning reform, following the implementation of our pro-growth National Planning Policy Framework in December.

To deliver on our Plan for Change we need to do more to streamline the development of critical national infrastructure. We’ve today published a working paper seeking views on proposed changes to the NSIP regime 👇🏻 www.gov.uk/government/p...

The work continues to switch on the measures in the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act. I have today signed regulations to remove the two-year ownership rule for leaseholders of flats to extend their lease, and leaseholders of houses to extend their lease or buy their freehold.

There’s being bold and there’s being plain bonkers. No-one who thinks for 5 minutes can believe means testing the state pension is a good idea - but that is what Kemi Badenoch says she’s up for

An example of the value of Rent Repayment Orders (in this case because the landlord rented out their property without a license). Our Renters' Rights Bill significantly expands RROs to empower tenants to take direct action against unscrupulous landlords. www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

Why limiting the amount of rent in advance that landlords can demand to a maximum of one month is essential 👇🏻

The Tories just tried to block reform of private renting. This Labour government will ensure renters get the security, rights and protections they deserve.

The days of landlords demanding extortionate amounts of rent in advance from prospective renters will soon be over. Our Renters Rights Bill, which has its final stages in the commons today, will cap rent in advance payments to a maximum of one month.

My latest representations to the Deputy Mayor of London for Transport regarding the broken escalators at Cutty Sark DLR Station:

England doesn’t have enough houses, but we also don’t have enough Nature. What are we going to do about it? Some thoughts from Natural England, kindly published by Green Alliance. greenallianceblog.org.uk/2025/01/08/w...

Just like much of the furore this week, here is an example of a law passed 4 years ago and the Tories did nothing with it. Within months of us being in power we delivered the scheme because we are about actual actions and real outcomes. They talked we walked. www.burytimes.co.uk/news/2484314...

Deeply saddened that yet another young life has been lost in our community today following a stabbing on Woolwich Church St. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. I urge anyone with any information to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (Ref: 3795/07JAN25).

A full house of leasehold horrors in this building. Dangerous cladding, internal leaks, dodgy speculative freeholder going for permitted development (but now bust), opaque service charges, delayed remedial works… www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Opaque and unaffordable service charges are putting leaseholders and tenants across the country under immense strain. The government are committed to improving service charge transparency and making it easier to challenge unreasonable increases. Change is on its way. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
