Here's your friendly annual reminder that Cinco de Mayo is not, in fact, Mexican Independence Day. That's on September 16. This one's about the Battle of Puebla.

It's cool, and feels amazing, to realize that we're going to have a recession because the president thinks that kids have too many dolls now. It's obviously very stupid, but feeling like you should/do have the right to discipline other people's kids is also a core conservative value.

If this dude can't remember the thing he is quite literally sworn to do on the first day of work, in front of a global audience -- preserve, protect, defend the Constitution -- get him the fuck out yesterday.

Catching up on The Last Of Us this morning, and it's good to know that the 2003 Detroit Tigers are canonical within that story.

You know things aren't going well when Applebee's is trying to make a "two for $25" meal deal sound appealing.

if you'd like to see a wide re-release of Hundreds of Beavers in theaters this year, one night only, in thousands of cities — repost this. we've got some doubters.

Happening now: The American Visionary Art Museum’s annual, all-day Kinetic Sculpture Race reaches Patterson Park and the “sand pit” obstacle. Some city. Some fun. #Baltimore

Taraji P. Henson wants to boost mental health services at HBCUs. She came to Baltimore.

So, the Republicans want to tear down one of the best ideas America has ever had. I'm fucking pissed.

Learning to be a decent man is not such a mystery, and it's exhausting that the media treats it like some black box.

Being angry may feel like a luxury, or like a flash of immaturity escaping from a political pose of unsurprise. But telling our representatives to demand accountability before the law is the least we can do, and asking them to be angry too is at this point just asking them to be identifiably human.

What strikes me about this -- comments are still open for another few days, by the way, and they've received nearly 900 of them -- is that every single comment I've read is in support of preserving our existing student loan forgiveness options. Don't lose sight of that in the days and weeks ahead.

It was college decision today on campus, and it seems a bunch of Coppin Academy students decided to continue on at Coppin State. Always good to see lots of good news. Hopefully, I'll see them around my corner of campus in the fall.

Does Wildflowers count? Came out in '94, and Damn The Torpedoes was released in '79.

Modern conservatism seems basically antithetical to the idea of "knowing more".

Shit sucks and things are far too hard for far too many. And though things seem pretty dark these days, I just want to assure you that we’re gonna fucking win, you guys, and they are going to fucking lose. #MayDay

May Day protesters march from Baltimore's Penn Station down St. Paul Street to join other protest groups at McKeldin Square. 📹: @kaitlinobscura.bsky.social www.thebaltimorebanner.com/community/lo...

(1/2) Attention #WestBaltimore: 🛒🍎 a new supermarket, Streets Market, is coming soon! This project will redevelop a vacant building into a vibrant source of healthy food – and help eliminate a food desert that has disrupted our communities for far too long.

Finished reading "Sleeping Beauties" from Stephen King and Owen King recently, which debuted in 2017 but feels like a more intense read in 2025 than might have been expected.

Anyone who ever said writing isn't political can kindly take a lap.

Why do bash "people with actual, normal friends" for not being there for the average American but we never question if the average American has bad vibes? Or if they're just unpleasant to be around?

Baltimore County haters are in shambles.

We made a class war reading list for you.

Love how "recognizing that we've made mistakes and trying harder to collectively give a shit about other people as a result" is still conflated with "communism" in fuckin' 2025. Like, get a grip.

Fourth Reich culture, Americana

this would be so funny if this guy wasn’t president

If we can make more regular people aware that "the machine that can't stop getting things wrong is going to raise your power bill whether you use it or not", I think we can get more people to reject generative AI. People in Baltimore are already sick of BGE rate hikes as it is.

Remember when we didn't have to think about billionaires every single day of our lives?

The president is a racist.

Why does it feel like horror is the only movie genre that has any real vision these days?

Hell yeah, Walk-timore, amirite

Personally, I don't think generative AI has legs, either.

The Department of Education is holding hearings today and Thursday regarding potential changes to student loan forgiveness. It may be vital that you lend your voice to defend what's in place for borrowers. They're accepting public comments through May 5. www.regulations.gov/document/ED-...

Much chagrined to have updated my Samsung phone and realize they're trying to cram AI into it. I liked it better when they just put a few bloatware games that I would never ever want to play and would immediately uninstall every time.

Racist.

Newsletter: I am sick and god damn tired of everybody pretending that generative AI is the next big thing. The media is complicit in accepting fantastical nonsense - both in the numbers put out by OpenAI and the silly jobs created by Anthropic - and it has to stop. www.wheresyoured.at/reality-check/

Don't know if anyone has pointed it out, but I think there's a pretty clear correlation between the California State University's decision to roll out ChatGPT to students and its subsequent proposed budget cuts. Like, those are pretty clearly a pair of anti-labor decisions, right?

What the

This is exactly what I've been thinking for a while now.

A machine does not produce anything with meaning. A chain of words produces by a machine is sinply that: A chain of words without actual thought behind it. It simply produces an output of some kind. With generative AI and large language models, too many people have too readily conflated the two.

Oh, hell yeah, the Maple Missile is a 49er.

The Ravens picked a kicker, eh? End of an era forthcoming, perhaps.

Chat GPT is a lot like your Uncle Bill. If you ask him something everyone knows about, he’ll probably give you the correct answer. If you ask him something obscure, he’ll just make stuff up. Also, he’s subtly racist.

Grim to say it, but the Seahawks got a dude in Tory Horton.
