The collection concludes with reflections from Michael Albert on how the hegemony of growth could be overcome via post-growth futures even from within capitalism. This paper, like all the others, speaks to critical debates in IR, ecological economics and beyond. /9 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Miriam Lang counters this argument with insights from Latin America. Here justice can be realised only through a rejection of the extractivist and, typically, colonial practices that underpin growth, whether brown or green. /8 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Chukwumerije Okereke challenges degrowth proponents by contending that green growth is the best path for African countries given its small contribution but huge exposure to climate change. For Okereke, climate justice comes via green growth in this region. /7 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Rajeswari Raina & @mbhrishabh.bsky.social argue for post-growth agrifood systems as a way of liberation from industrialised agriculture, which is both socially and ecologically problematic. They underline that new bodies of knowledge are needed for such a shift. /6 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

@bentleyallan.bsky.social envisages "a world after growth", indicating how industrial policy of a green state might get us there. A very timely contribution given the recent renaissance of industrial policy more broadly. /5 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Dahlia Simangan then takes us into the hypothetical world of post-growth peacebuilding. The paper reveals how most peacebuilding is grounded in the pursuit of development through growth. /4 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Next up is Lorenzo Fioramonti, who extends earlier work on beyond GDP by looking at three post-growth approaches: (1) steady-state economy, (2) degrowth & (3) well-being economy. It is a nice overview of the debates from a theoretical-conceptual vantage point. /3 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

We assembled a total of 8 papers, starting with our introduction. Here we argue that IR scholarship has paid very little attention to post-growth even though critical takes on the politics of economic growth are not rare. /2 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

The second bit is really interesting. What concepts/ideas are forgotten on purpose or simply unlearned over time?

When you do that for 2 days, how many other sessions do you then cancel so that students have about 15 2-hour sessions a term, Johannes?
