that picture crashes through the "she's so crazy lover her" meme and lands on this (@jfruh.bsky.social)

This is a kind of deceptive writing that seems endemic in UK journalism, especially about trans people. The story is written so as to give the impression that the legal case might have to do with Beth Upton's disciplinary history, but it's about a coworker harassing her. www.bbc.com/news/article...

This was the moment, just over a month ago, when the ADL could've put an end to Republicans doing Nazi salutes. They didn't. They chose instead to provide cover by calling it "an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm." Now the sieg heil salute has been normalized. The ADL literally had ONE JOB.

wow, too bad there isn't some sort of organization that speaks up against antisemitism

i have come to call this “recursive antisemitism” because it all over the place these days. a feigned concern with antisemitism is itself injected into an antisemitic frame. the antisemitic conspiracy is then offered as an explanation for the rise in antisemitism

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

this is an example of why i disagree with people who urge us to distance ourselves from the phrase “diversity, equity, and inclusion” and “DEI”, and in effect cede them to the fascists. Instead our professional communities should claim ownership of them and articulate clearly what they mean.

A lot of nazi saluting happening for a country that won World War Two

The Washington Post treating Marisa and thehandbasket.co as some sort of lead instead of the journalist/outlet who broke the story is indefensible elitist bullshit.

on behalf of the academy, I object to "college whiz kids" (both the "college" and "whiz" parts)

Impossible to overstate that Pitt and its constellation of medical institutions are the entire economy here.

New: the University of Pittsburgh paused PhD admissions this week amid federal research funding turmoil. A Pitt spokesperson said the school is analyzing how the proposed NIH cuts could play out, but "expects to be in a position to resume offers soon." www.wesa.fm/health-scien...

when a paper is at "Reviews Completed" for a month does that mean anything

at some point if you're willing to admit that this salute mimicks another *recent* famous salute you might as well just say which historical salute both are mimicking. but apparently nobody wants to be the first to say "Nazi"
