Terrifying to see the legislative and judicial branches of government pushed to serve the executive rather than the constitution and citizens, with Trump acting as the popular face of what essentially looks to be a billionaire backed Christian Libertarian coup Also www.propublica.org/article/we-d...

that all relates to 2nd lesson: if ICE cares so much about local collaboration, it also means that sanctuary policies matter a great deal. this reporting on Chicago shows that no one is claiming that local protections can stop arrests & deportations — but also why they still matter a lot:

One immediate action from Senate democrats is to block any up/down voice vote and hold hearings for each and every one of the new General/Admiral confirmations. The Republicans can win the votes, but the process to vote on each of these nominations will take time. Grind them down!

what was the one thing Trump really wanted from the Chairman last time? To use the military against the American public. So, yeah, that is very much on the table now. However, Trump can't replace every officer, so he still won't know if an order to shoot on protestors would be obeyed.

next step is for Trump to replace the combatant commander for North America. Chairman does not have operational authority--the person who orders troops to do something is region specific. So, watch for new commanding officers at Northern Command--those would be the ones ordering repression in the US
