That guy is Executive Director, Naval Sea Systems Command. He's basically the guy in charge of making sure the boats are good boats. And he has to send a frantic email out telling everybody to treat DOGE like a phishing attack.

If only we had someone, a Chief Justice so to speak, who was in precisely the position to stand up for an independent judiciary by publicly refusing the request on behalf of all judicial branch employees. Oh well!

This is horrible for the future of American science and innovation and economic wellbeing and all the things Pitt is not a small institution It has nearly 10K grad students It is where Salk discovered the polio vaccine

The reply email inbox for this “what did you do last week” email is [email protected], so, you know, definitely don’t send them any unrelated messages that would interfere with their ability to carry out Elon’s dumbass bullshit

Two weeks from now the crew of a nuclear submarine are going to see this email and the subsequent one firing them all.

From a purely economics standpoint, if we funded 99 useless studies on catheter infections and 1 good study that improved prevention / treatment, it'd still be totally worth it. ... but instead everything's frozen, and they won't even say why. They hate science and they resent scientists.

Chuckling at Gorsuch's dissent (joined by Alito) in the Special Counsel case, where the majority kicked the can a few days. "Apparently?" Based on an 1898 case? You're making a ridiculous 'originalist' argument that renders courts powerless and you don't have better cites? C'mon, man.

Leaving aside just about everything else about the bill, here are facts we can all agree are true: Every other bill that changed Del corp law explicitly said it didn't apply to pending cases. This one doesn't. Musk's appeal was just filed before the Del. SCt.

The Trump regime's segregationist agenda is clear. I argue that having a Black man as president of white America enraged a portion of this country so much, that they decided to destroy any pipeline to Black advancement in academia, government, & workplaces. karenattiah.substack.com/p/trumps-seg...

One aspect of doing a political purge of the military and civil service is you can't come back in afterwards and just revert to status quo ante policies. A counter-purge becomes a necessity before you can then restore usual norms and protections. The people he's installing can't be left in place.

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Exactly. The root here isn't that bigots have some philosophical concern which compels them to care about what appears on someone else's government ID. Rather, the purpose is practical and malicious: to force trans people to disclose it—and, often, to explain it—every time they show ID.

Read the real stories about what USAID cuts mean, not the Musk propaganda www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

Many politicians & CEOs are ignorant about / indifferent to science, but with Trump–Musk and their stooges, it's more. They outright hate science. Presumably this is another manifestation of their insecurity, a deep resentment because scientists get credit for their hard work and good brains.

Seriously, someone HAS to do a sketch about the choir director of the J6 Choir getting ready for the big show. “No QAnon Shaman, you can’t wear the headdress, it’s pointy and it blocks the person beh— CONFEDERATE FLAG GUY!! DO NOT TASE THE TENOR CAPTAIN!!”

HA HAs for HOMES is moving dates from 3/29 to 4/5, due to circumstances beyond our control. We hope you can still attend! Our line up is a little different, but the evening’s goal remains the same, to have a great time supporting a great cause. philadelphia.heliumcomedy.com/shows/303190

Happy 6th birthday (five days ago) to @shvartacus.bsky.social's classic, still relevant as ever.

Love to start a tariff war with a dozen-plus countries that have a digital services tax because a couple tech billionaires think they don't have enough money. Very good and sound use of trade policy for the benefit of the American consumer. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The median home buyer is a median Golden Girl.

FYI Dems: every air disaster is because of Trump, Musk, and the GOP. This isn't misinformation or exaggeration. It's a fair and necessary analysis of ripping the guts out of complex, proven safety systems. You're not being prudent waiting for NTSB reports, you're helping cover up the root cause.

This is in fact a real picture and it will work nicely in the ads next year about the military families devastated by Elon's illegal firings.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the concept of "IQ." Whenever someone seriously mentions the importance of IQ, I know I can shut my brain off because nothing they say is worth thinking about. It's so convenient!

Another mixture of incompetence and malice. Employee credit cards are easier to track than an endless stream of checks, and correspondingly they're cheaper because you need less admin work and employees spend less time in arduous request/reimbursement processes.

Yeah. To put it into perspective, if Trump is permitted to rearrange the post office, he is also permitted to rearrange the lower federal courts however he likes. Both are spelled out as "The Congress shall have Power" in Art I, Sec 8. And there's more too, like armies and the militia, second pic.

All true things: -you should spend political capital wisely -universities, academics, and scientists have not always spent political capital wisely -this is probably a good time to spend your political capital because you probably won't have any after this anyway

Some of DOGE is retribution, some is corruption, some is incompetence, some is a mix of those, but this is destruction for destruction's sake. It's undermining American science, industry, and commerce just because they can.

Best I can tell, the reasoning is: "The r-word was used a lot when I was in high school and therefore, because I'm not a mature adult, being asked not to use a slur oppresses me. I must right this injustice and pretend I am still living in my more glorious past by using that particular slur."

This would produce an impeachment of the US Attorney in a functional political system. Nonetheless, it's curious how Musk is referred to as "an appointed representative of [the] President" who has "government staff who work for him." What's his position? Who works for him? They've refused to say.

looks like I'll be joining @aoc.bsky.social in fed lockup for the crime of posting

This is an absolute fucking disaster. Teenaged cybercriminals with physical access to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

I hadn't seen this yesterday, Elon Musk saying two lawyers were "undermining civilization" which "seems like a generational trauma transfer issue." What a strange insult. Does he know their parents or something? Ah, I see: they're both Jewish. It's Musk being a Nazi. Again.

Wall Street and traders are very slowly waking up to the realization that Trump's agenda isn't "pro-growth," not even under the fake GOP claim of tax cuts for billionaires = growth, but under any analysis. It's anti-growth, it's ripping out the foundations of the US economy.

Got himself arrested on purpose while telling his city council to not put a MAGA plaque on the library because MAGA = Nazis. It worked, producing media coverage. Baller. ✊ www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...

"Here's a clever way to do the bad thing" is a disease throughout the legal profession, including much of academia and the judiciary. Much, not all, but too many.

Musk/Trump/NYT is going to call firing IRS agents savings, but the lost revenue will be many times their salaries: this all about making it easier for rich people to cheat on their taxes.

And it gets worse: www.thetransmitter.org/funding/fede...
