I gave this talk at the Cornell Club in NYC last Tuesday, February 25, and I'm happy to share, especially on the one-year anniversary of publication. The video cuts just a few minutes at the very end. Hopefully that'll motivate viewers to read Parliamentary America. Enjoy! vimeo.com/1062949277/7...

The abysmal behavior exhibited today by Trump and Vance reminded me of this famous tantrum line by Joseph Stalin: "I will shake my little finger, and there will be no more Tito." It didn't work out that way. I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I'd put my money on Zelinskyy.

Three reactions: 1. Until 28 mins, no one defines const'l crisis, and when they do, they don't get it right, leading to anodyne reform proposals; 2. Despite that, it's better than most; 3. Better than most isn't good enough to emerge from this a thriving democracy. music.youtube.com/watch?v=ROf1...

Gee whiz. Yet again she's "very concerned." I'll sleep better now.

One other point. I have personally been hit with the $9 NYC congestion pricing. I didn't like it. But that's a minuscule price to pay as compared with bending a knee to Donald Trump.

The White House posting an image of Donald Trump with a crown saying long live the king is not only vile; it demonstrates his profound hatred and disdain for literally all that this nation ever stood for. Trump exhibits the absolute worst combination of ignorance and confidence.

Thank you so much!

In light of the news that DOJ leadership is forcing career prosecutors to either dismiss the criminal case against Eric Adams or be fired, it seems like a good time to remind everyone that the judge can refuse to dismiss. That rule exists precisely in order to prevent corrupt dismissals.

Karoline Leavitt, 27 years old, hasn't studied law. She doesn't define Constitutional Crisis. No age shaming, but I've been teaching conlaw for 34 years. We're in a constitutional crisis. The term needs clear definition. I provide that in Parliamentary America. www.c-span.org/video/?c5153...

Some notable data, and I'm quoted: news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/...

I'll second that.

100%. And as another commenter wrote, this was immediately followed by: "Such institutions may be destined to pass away. But it is the duty of the Court to be last, not first, to give them up." This opinion, and Jackson's separate Korematsu opinion, should be required reading for all Americans.

I know I sound like a broken record, but when exactly will major news outlets entertain serious conversations about institutional reform rather than this kind of unhelpful handwringing? This article reads as if ending mid-sentence. I don't get it. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/b...

Thank you so much!

This review is truly remarkable. It's more thoughtful and thorough than many book reviews appearing in published journals. Thank you so much @dennislytton.bsky.social. Here's the link: www.goodreads.com/user/show/18...

I'm honored to share this remarkable Goodreads review of Parliamentary America. It reads like a published book review in a professional journal. I hope you'll read it. It's truly a privilege to know my work influenced someone so thoughtful and who cared enough to share his impressions. Thank you!

I don't recall past Onion articles nearly driving me to tears. theonion.com/ice-agent-de...

Setting aside legality, the so-called 8 month severance isn't "generous." It's not generous to spend other people's, especially taxpayer, money, especially when doing so not to benefit the public, but rather to entrench your control of what was once a professional civil service.

Watch for the difference that's about to unfold between how Democrats regard former Senator Bob Menendez's 11 year sentence vs how Republicans treat their own when they are properly convicted and sentenced for criminal activity. Then ask who actually cares about the rule of law.

Aaron Zelinsky was on the Mueller team, and served as lead counsel for the Roger Stone case and co-lead for the Marilyn Mosby case. He's a brilliant lawyer and a friend. This interview's important for anyone distressed by what's happened to our democracy and rule of law. www.wypr.org/show/midday/...

I am so exhausted from hearing news accounts about the Trump Administration doing things that are "highly unusual." No. It is doing things that are highly unethical and morally repugnant. Those aren't the same thing. www.cnn.com/2025/01/27/p...

For Trump, "respect" only means one thing--cowering to whomever holds power, like a thief with a gun. It never implies admiration for embracing moral values or the hard work required to help those who are vulnerable. Succumbing to coercion isn't respect. www.cnn.com/2025/01/26/p...

This especially helpful review emphasizes something I worked extremely hard to achieve--ensuring that inevitably nuanced concepts and ideas about what we must to do fix our democracy are accessible to everyone who reads Parliamentary America.
