I was going to hassle you for keeping a hatchet in a desk drawer, but I see you also have the first aid kit, so it's OK.

"the Excel"? Sounds like some shit my dad would say.

If they spent half as much time trying to get the Excel to run decently over a shitty VPN connection as they did updating Excel to make it auto-format shit how it *thinks* I want it formatted, and somehow getting it wrong every single fucking time, well, I'd already be done for the week.

I dunno. And it isn't like it's some flaky far-left position or something, it's just... this is how it works. Nobody denies that this is how it works. The AEI says this is how it works, ffs. Can't get any further to the right than that.

I always assume we (the public) know a lot less about what is going on in a foreign war than we think we do, and I usually assume anything that either side says in a war is a lie. It's... a war. That's how wars work. I can plainly see what *we* are doing here, though. I have opinions on that.

I love the term "weapons backfill" - we send our old shit to Ukraine, and the "aid" gets used to buy the DoD cool *new* shit. From those noted leftists at the American Enterprise Institute:

Whatever the IT people have foisted upon me, I have no idea. Something changes in it every other goddamned week. I didn't know there were two different flavors of shit.

I'm seeing the behavior that caused me to more or less caused me to give up on them in 2009/2010 magnified by 1000X. It turns out they were more spineless and lacking in any kind of actual beliefs or convictions than I even thought possible 15 years ago.

I have not told anyone that if they asked me to move right now, even to SoCal, I probably would.

The tone/direction is definitely different now, but the feeling like we're sitting around waiting for something to happen feels exactly the same.

The next time I have to do team building, I am going to claim to be opposed to it on environmental/moral grounds.

I've been thinking a lot the last few weeks about the period of time between the 2000 election and 9/11. This feels weirdly similar to me.

It is funny that I remember talking to people in the mid 90s about how something was gonna have to replace it because without a Big Bad Guy to worry about, you can't hold America together for any length of time. Ah, well,

I used to be on the road 30+ weeks per year, and after doing that for several years... well, that was a decade ago, and I still don't want to travel ever again.

I think it's been over a year since I've had to even leave SW Ohio for work. This is just a car trip, so it's not so bad, just long because I have a list of places to go. Still, it's actually for a worthwhile reason and I talked them out of doing the meetings in California, so... I'll take it.
