Last day for submissions to the RBC PEN New Voices Award. #CanLit #writers

@andybest.bsky.social And so it begins. (I was serious about that membership card lol)

Finished Scott Alexander Howard's The Other Valley the other day. A lovely speculative story that seeps into you like a morning mist and asks you to consider what you would do if your past and future were only a hike away. #CanLit

Every once in a while my printer will randomly run a short feed cycle or something... and I've started thinking of it as the printer sighing. Never has its ennui been more relatable. I get why you refuse to connect. I see you.

Great list of Canadian presses for those looking to support Canadian books! #CanLit

Susan Holbrook's Steamy is easily the funniest book about menopause I've ever read. #canlit

Very excited to have provided interior design for this lovely book. Amazing photos by Marty Gervais interwoven with beautiful poems by Kim Fahner (kimfahner.bsky.social), Micheline Maylor (michelinemaylor.bsky.social), Teajai Travis, John B Lee and Peter Hrastovec. blackmosspress.com/product/and-...

Today's Goodwill book haul

Happy Caesar Stabbing Day, for those that celebrate.

Good read. "I think that both conservatives and progressives see the library, and especially the school library, as a microcosm of society. They think [...] that they can reshape society by transforming the library." #canlit #bookbans

Having watched the various TV adaptations and visited Green Gables in PEI, it's a wonder it's taken this long, but I've finally started reading Anne of Green Gables for the first time. Still early pages, but enjoying it so far. #canlit

Food for thought.

A great read. Buy #indiebooks from #indiebookstores.

Part 1 of my (this never happens) weekly reading roundup. Finished my first-ever romance novel, The Kiss Quotient. About as formulaic as I expected (not a negative, I wanted to learn the genre tropes). Spicier than I expected 👀. Not rushing for another but I liked it.

More related to the link I posted yesterday re: S&S doing away with blurbs.

Starting this #canlit humour classic today.

Both bits of Ken Whyte's new post are good reads. The first on silliness of Amzn and "The 38 Letters from J.D. Rockefeller to his son" and the second on why Simon & Schuster publisher Sean Manning is doing away with book blurbs.

Depressing and concerning. #CanLit #IndiePublishing #books

Re-reading Huck Finn in prep for reading Percival Everett's James and came across this. Did Twain inspire Lee and Ditko?

Officially published. <3

It's so cold that the outside of my garage fridge is colder than the inside of my garage fridge. This means I have a garage fridge with a garage fridge.

My daughter (8yo) and I watched Roman Holiday for the first time this weekend. I think we're now fully on a classics kick.

If you haven’t already purged yourself of Meta accounts and are like me, just leaving the accounts open and not going to use them anymore, then this info may be relevant for you. Very detailed step by step instructions for how to lock down your privacy settings.

Diane, 12:23 PM, January 17th. Entering The Town Of Twin Peaks. I don't think there's a film of his I haven't seen, but I always put off Twin Peaks. The death of David Lynch has me on a binge this weekend. I'm 4 episodes in and kicking myself for having waited this long.

This is pretty rad. There's a video in the article that is worth the watch.

Vaccines are amazing. www.bbc.com/news/article...

I mean, how long before Meta realizes there's no actual humans left?

From The Memory Palace by Nate DiMeo

Ooooh that's terrible... ... nooooo ... I'm bummed. 😂

This is fascinating. Discussing critical developmental periods and how they can be re-opened using hallucinogenic drugs. radiolab.org/podcast/the-...

Started Renée Bondy's [non]disclosure today. I believe that puts my "currently reading" list at 7. I need to stop starting books like it's my only hobby. This is untenable. Xmas break can't come soon enough.
