I read Bear about a year ago for the first time. A wonderful, powerful novel well worthy of its spot in the #canlit canon.

I dunno if blurb hunting is quite bully level for the analogy to work (maybe in the context of how publishers put marketing on authors), but yeah definitely get that 🍑😘 vibe from PW's intro. I think it actually colours Manning's otherwise pretty neutral tone.

Only through the introduction and I'm already liking Mr. Leacock's humour.

This was a great read. And I'm just realizing I forgot to clean my gutters :)

Even in Trek communities that are eager to look at trek properties with fuzzy glasses this is being torn apart. A shame really, as conceptually it's a neat idea and it's difficult to hate on Yeoh.

Am curious though how, from a historical analysis, historians can tease out the difference between: "civilization fell because people in civ stopped believing the greatness narrative" and "civilization began to fall [bcuz reasons] and people stopped believing the greatness narrative"

I grew up like 40 minutes from the Six Nations of the Grand River, one of the largest groups of Haudenosaunee people, and only learned this a couple years ago. :|

I would say *did read*. I feel listening to an audiobook is reading, just like typing (a comment or a book, whatever) is writing. "Reading" can mean both using your eyes to parse and absorb words, but it can also just mean to consume media that was originally written (or typed, for that matter).
