Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism. If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone. Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

🧵Meet Maude Delap #10: Tetrapod trackway. Tetrapods were one of the first animals to walk on land, about 385 million years ago. These tracks were only discovered in 1992, so Maude never knew they were there. 1/4 #JellyfishScientist #STEAMTeamBooks 🌊

One thing that is interesting/perplexing to me, an author whose books have been banned, is that I'm constantly being asked to talk about how the book bans affect libraries and readers. This is important, but why not ask me, an author, how book bans affect authors? This could be relevant.

Lots of events in Eastern MA over the next month+ to launch Jellyfish Scientist. I hope to see you! (NOTE: Some require RSVP. Details at the link in my bio.) #JellyfishScientist #WomenInStem #KidsLoveNonfiction #MarineScience #SteamTeamBooks #OceanScience #nonfiction #STEAM #STEM #kidlitbooknews

CANADIAN REPORTER: Trump's tone on Canada has shifted. He stopped talking about Canada becoming the 51st state. LEAVITT: I would reject that the president's position on Canada has shifted. Perhaps he just hasn't been asked about it. He believes Canadians would benefit from becoming the 51st state.

This is what's at stake in Mahmoud v. Taylor. Oral arguments take place a week from today. Rally on the Supreme Court steps all day that day. Decision in June. www.vox.com/scotus/40835...

Wow, we are now being officially advised against travel to the USA by the Canadian Association of University Teachers. I never thought I'd see the day. ☹️ #AcademicChatter

Van Hollen: "I applaud Harvard's decision not to give in to bullying from the Trump administration. Trump believes in 1st Amendment rights for himself, but apparently for nobody else ... the whole purpose of 1A is you don't have the government dictating speech as the administration is trying to do."

In defiance of the Supreme Court & without any evidence, the White House claims that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a “terrorist,” who was “sent to the right place.” This is a blatant LIE. He is innocent. He cannot be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. He must be brought home.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

This is good. I’m glad and relieved that Harvard is pushing back.

This is the final week to pre-order #JellyfishScientist! It comes out April 22nd! All books ordered from Eight Cousins Books will be signed by me. (link in bio). #WomenInStem #MarineScience #OceanScience #nonfiction #STEAM #STEM #kidlitbooknews

🚨When the stock market was deep in the red yesterday, Majorie Taylor Greene bought tens of thousands in stock. Trump then paused tariffs & she made thousands in profit. Stories that start like this have ended in prison for others.

Many people here have expressed love and admiration for my child. THIS HARMS MY CHILD, most of their friends, and many of my friends. www.snopes.com/fact-check/d...

I just learned that the entire press team at the FDA was fired last week. The *entire* press team. It's difficult to grasp how bizarre this is. To wrap my brain around the idea, I made a list of things the FDA is responsible for, and that reporters now have no one at the agency to ask about... 🧪🛟

AABB welcomes authors who have published academic books as well! We've even got an affinity group for you. The Trump administration is attacking all aspects of the book world, so we have to mobilize together to fight back.

The only thing posted on my circulation desk. It is small but mighty.

I just opened a new bag of Jim’s Organic Coffee and WOW, nothing beats the delicious aroma and shimmery goodness of fresh beans. (Taking a short break from work and activism to enjoy this).

Meet Maude Delap #9: Telegraph on Valentia. Lots of important history happened on Maude’s island. Cables stretched from New York to Valentia enabled faster communication between the United States and Europe. Perhaps the most famous telegram was sent from Valentia to New York on April 22, 1916.

Where is our humanity?

Our president is horrible and not a leader. Leaders don’t push hate and seek to divide. Leaders unite.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Yesterday, we sent a historically big message to Trump, Musk, and the GOP — and we also sent a signal to all those who agree with us but have spent the last few months feeling shaken, hopeless, and afraid. #handsoff

Heartbreaking. Dr. Michael Osterholm, who is an epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota and a former official in the Department of Health and Human Services: “This sits squarely on the back of anti-vaccine voices that have continued to spread disinformation.” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/06/h...

This video, better than stills, illustrates just how many people marched in Boston yesterday. City hall plaza, filled from the JFK federal building, stretching across Cambridge St and all the way down Tremont St to Boylston. (From: Reddit)

WITNESS Hope laced up her boots this morning, grabbed her sign and marched down Main Streets from coast to coast, to drown out every vestige of despair, distress, and fear by shouting louder than loud: I. AM. HERE. April 5, 2025 Nikki Grimes.
