The writer Margery Allingham was born #OTD 1904. Most famous for her Albert Campion detective novels, she lived in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex for much of her life, where a road name remembers her. The village has become famous for a more notorious murder mystery in the years since.

This is true, but what I find interesting are the reasons why it's true. Americans really like things to be categorised as "serious" and "unserious". They rely on those labels when deciding how to react. It gives them a very high tolerance to ridiculousness and absurdity.
