Bad things happen, Maryland, when you outsource corrections to private contractors. All of these jobs should be done by trained and supervised Maryland State employees. www.baltimoresun.com/2025/04/25/c...

@themegynkellyshow.bsky.social it is hard to be a moral person and believe that you have to welcome the stranger and the downtrodden, and sometimes those strangers may do bad things, but you don't stop helping them because of their failures. There's no upside economically, or politically for that.

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

More winning in the age of MAGA. Now, banks and credit cards will not be capped at $8.00. The now misnamed Consumer Financial Protection Agency changed its mind and said it is ok to charge as much as they want. More "choice for consumers. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/b...

Looking forward to the higher pay and benefits for American workers and consumers as deregulation kicks in. That is the goal is it not? www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/u...

I am not sure how this business practice of relying on the goodwill of customers to (hopefully) pay their workers continues to exist. @onefairwage www.baltimoresun.com/2025/04/14/b...

I wish the Baltimore County Council was as dedicated to finding places FOR development, and housing as they are for where they do not want it. I imagine they will continue to sit in their offices and wait for developers to bring them ideas. www.baltimoresun.com/2025/04/10/b...

A story like this one says a lot about America in 2025. It is also something not fixable by tariffs, or closing the border, or lower taxes. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/n...

Finally someone is proposing an actual vision for making Baltimore County better -reverse our population loss, redevelop our dead malls and unleash job creation across all zip codes, we need to reject the politics of the past and embrace real, modern governance. www.baltimoresun.com/2025/03/31/t...

Assuming that Trump's plan is successful and all the companies facing tariffs reshore their production and create American manufacturing jobs, who is gonna work them? As a teacher of teens, I can tell you that they may not all want to go college, but they are not dying to work on an assembly line.

I remember that one of the criticisms' that Republicans had for Democrats were that they mishandled the economy, because they could not provide certainty. Something that was presented as the secret sauce for economic growth. I would be interested in what business is making of this administration.

And in other news health care CEOs continue to behave badly. www.yahoo.com/news/health-...

Is it foolish to still be waiting for President Trump to hire Inspectors General for the 17 he fired?

In the intersection of service/compassion and "efficiency" I want my government to provide service/compassion. Especially so for Americans who are elderly, disabled, in financial and mental distress. I don't want it made harder to access service from their government. www.axios.com/2025/03/24/s...

If it seems like everything is an emergency, it is because our president is saying so. In addition to being a war with Venezuela, we have a national energy emergency, and now a critical minerals emergency. www.wbaltv.com/article/trum...

Maryland can't seem to get a handle on its sin taxes. Collections decline, the impetus is to raise the rates, collections decline even more. marylandmatters.org/2024/02/28/i...

Just end the absurd tip rate on Maryland workers, allow them to be paid regular wages, and to accept gratuities as they are intended. www.baltimoresun.com/2025/03/06/n...

This same ridiculous restriction is keeping motivated and competent candidates from serving on the Baltimore County Council. The county needs to end this exclusionary rule "a provision in the county charter that prohibits a county lawmaker from being employed by a county or state government entity.

When looking for waste, fraud and abuse:

Sentences like this make my head hurt: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/11/u...

DEI is more than you think it is.

Many are upset by the high handed actions going on in Washington, but similar things occur in Baltimore County. When the council or the CE violate a rule, there's no penalty, no enforcement mechanism, no sanction. Just a shrug and a "my bad" and keep it moving. www.baltimoresun.com/2025/02/05/b...

This may sound totally naive, but when Trump suggests that Palestinians should go to Egypt or Jordan, why is going to Israel not an option? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/04/b...

So, in 2020 President Trump negotiates a trade deal with the US, Mexico, and Canada. www.trade.gov/usmca#:~:tex.... In 2025, he tears it up. Can anyone enter any kind of negotiation with him in confidence?

There are going to be more moments like this: Proud that LBJ signed an EO in 1965 revoking workplace discrimination- and appalled that in the next 60 years Democrats never codified it into law. How many of these "norms" will be overturned because Dems forgot them? www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

Just saying.

It is hard to reconcile Trumps plans to rid the country of fentanyl and pardon drug dealers at the same time. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/21/t...

Listening to the people arguing that the Chinese are controlling the Panama Canal, I wonder why companies from the the USA, the richest most powerful country on the planet could not buy control of the ports on either end of the Panama Canal. #panamacanal

It looks like we have some work to do.

I don’t care much about TicTok but it is crazy to me how in America we can pass a law with wide bipartisan majorities, have it pass Supreme Court review, and have a president saw essentially “Nah, we are not going to follow that.”.
