Arcs demands to be understood, and once everyone at the table internalizes the language, you realize that every restriction exists for a reason. But getting to that point of understanding is a brutal experience.

Mario kart is a favourite for my kid. The auto drive and autosteer enable her to actually play, and she gets soooo excited when she picks up a bullet bill 😅

Five Tribes excels at 2 players! The tempo of bidding and getting two actions back to back can be Super satisfying

👀HOLY SMOKES 👀
Damn, the store deck is already massive with the number of sets you're supposed to add. It must be downright unwieldy when all those cards are sleeved.
Well, if you do choose to sleeve, I guess I'll see you next year!

Do you have to sleeve Millennium Blades? I bought the base game years ago, and I don't remember doing any sleeving. The stacking cash on the other hand, that was a quite a unique pre-game setup activity!

Omg same. I opened the rulebook for Argent: The Consortium this afternoon, then slammed it shut and pulled a couple classics off the shelf instead. (Super Motherload and Vikings)

Both are quite good games! Which one did you prefer?

Eclipse at 4 players is a delight. You're aware of what everyone has and can do, and you're invested in every combat as inevitably one of your closest neighbors will be in that fight.
Enjoyed your discussion of Eclipse, thanks for the episode!

Nice! What colour did you get?
I think the device I'm in the market for will need to play PS2 and GC games well. Which, might just end up being a Steam Deck 🤷

I'm loving Mark's retro device reviews, because they're something I've been tempted to get. The RG35XXSP he talked about last time looks really great and hits the nostalgia hard, but I'm not sure if it's actually an upgrade from something like a soft modded 3DS?

It was okay. Enjoyable and fun. But The chaos introduced by the character tiles and round cards made it difficult to really plan. Probably best for casual play.

Okay, did you like Radiant Dawn? It's one of the few FE games that I didn't finish. I was frustrated that the support convos were absolutely neutered and chose not to continue.
At least, that's what I remember. I haven't touched it since 2008 😅

Nice. Path of Radiance is one of my favourites. Very nostalgic ❤️

There was one hand where two players had the same two pair, but one had a king kicker and the other held a queen kicker. We chalked that loss up to total luck, not sure how you're supposed to be able to call that one.

I hope you dig it! I think it's exponentially harder the more players you add, but that just makes it more satisfying when you succeed!

That autumn art is a lot more charming than I anticipated. Can you mix and match different seasonal expansions?

We played 5 rounds with 5 players and I think collectively succeeded 3 times.
But then one player dropped out and we won 3 In a row. It seems exponentially easier with less players!

Open and clear communication is paramount. Your partner cannot read your mind, and won't know what you want or need unless you tell them.

'Dive' might be the right verb here! Every character has a tuck box that needs to get set up before I can start playing.
I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I get weirdly excited about assembling a #boardgame. I like exploring the artefacts, not yet understanding where they belong...

Maglev Metro triggers my loss aversion pretty hard. With only two actions per turn, the last thing I want to do is spend one of those actions rearranging my robots on my player mat. With 4 players, it's harder to get the ideal robots or population without someone beating you to the punch.

That sucks! We cancelled our game night this week because the roads were too icy. Decided its better to be safe than sorry.

Great review! The combolicious aspect is real good. Only two actions feels so restrictive at the start, but by the end it's amazing how much you can squeeze out of a single turn!

I find it kind of interesting that this is the second legend of Zelda game in a row that starts players with a full heart meter, only to rip it away 10 minutes later.

I finally convinced my wife to watch season 1 in the week leading up to s2's release. I'm so glad I did a rewatch, because, yeah. I had forgotten A LOT.

One time I sent my wife to pick up my library holds, and she didn't read that label and brought me home an empty case.
"How was I supposed to know!?" she said... 😑

Usually mechanical overlap. Like, I love Forbidden Desert, but I have other coops that I enjoy more. Same with Bananagrams, I love it, but I'd almost always rather play Paperback.

Yeah, that's pretty much every game with my daughter right now. "I don't want to play with the rules, daddy. I want to play with the NO rules." 🤷

I've been enjoying River City Glassworks on BGA a lot lately. How does it play on the table?

I refer to this as my "Shelf of Dust". My collection of games that I've played, but the most time has passed since it's last play.
The dustiest game I own is Castles of Burgundy: The Card Game. Last played August 15, 2016.

I recently started playing Azul 2 players on BGA, and was SHOCKED at how I got absolutely stomped via hate drafting 😂
Most of my plays up to this point have been at 4 players

Sagrada is my default when introducing people to games. The translucent dice are so pretty, it immediately hooks them!

Arg! So frustrating when that happens!
At least it's never out of print! 😅

My wife gifted me Pandemic Legacy Season 1 for Christmas 2019. We played the first half of the game in Jan and Feb of 2020, then... took a 5 year break. We actually just picked it back up last week. Yeah, still stressful!
