I’ve heard some stories recently of people complying with fascists’ demands after they were threatened. As a violence researcher (and someone who has received a good deal of threats), everyone should know that complying will not save you. It only teaches the threatener that threats work.

Some people are taking issue with my even calling them scholars. I am going to continue to do that. From my standpoint, the fact that they are law professors makes this worse. That’s the point of the emphasis—to indicate my belief that this is not what we are supposed to be doing.
