NOAA has long been in the crosshairs for Trump. Back in 2017 he nominated former AccuWeather CEO Barry Myers to head the agency. Myers had previously lobbied to restrict the National Weather Service, part of NOAA, from providing weather forecasts for free to the American public.

Me filing my long ass drafts to my editor

Among everything else, what a shitty fate, to have national systems of support dismantled by two men who have never once changed a diaper.

My husband is a federal worker, a disabled veteran, a loving father and stepfather of three. He's won multiple awards for streamlining processes, improving systems, and all around busting his ass.

I've just learned that cranberries are not actual berries and GODDAMNIT why are berries so full of lies and deceit, how hard is it to have fruit standards Fuck it, I'm making the call here Nothing is a berry anymore Everything is a fucking legume now Cranberries are Bog Peanuts Deal with it

Jesus H.. this is very bad.

Really happy to have a non-bot-infested, non-toxic platform on which to anxiously obsess over a breaking news event again. But also, please be safe and heed warnings. It's always better to over prepare. Nature does not give two shits about us tiny humans. #tsunami

Thanks so much for the nod @longreads.com !

It was such a treat getting to visit Martha Wells and her lovely family and found family earlier this year. She’s well known now for her iconic Murderbot series, but Martha endured a number of heartbreaking trials over the course of her career as a working writer. She’s got some true grit.

This is Trump’s FCC pick. By threatening to yank broadcast licenses, he is hoping the media companies obey in advance and won’t say critical things about Trump. It’s a fascist tactic.

This piece is absolute dreck -- the prose so purple it's suffering from near-fatal strangulation -- AND it manages to elide whether McCarthy was having sex with a 16-year-old runaway from foster care. Demerits all around and also jesus christ www.vanityfair.com/style/story/...

Just got a news alert starting with "Sir David Attenborough" and had a minor heart attack, but EVERYTHING IS FINE. He just hates AI. Thanks for that Google News.

Rewatching Quark Science, the space docu-series with Jim Al-Khalili, and I really recommend it for these times. Do you know how many freaking stars there are out there? Up to one septillion (that's one followed by 24 zeros). It's a fact that both existentially terrifies me and makes me less sad.

“The fact you have an organic life-form at all—a bag of bones you can move around in and use to process the world—sets your existence far apart from these faceless bots whose only physical form is distributed across the labyrinthine hallways of a data center.” www.wired.com/story/prompt...

During the first Trump regime, I really thought it was impossible to satirize American politics. Now I'm certain we can. We've built up our satire infrastructure, the parody reserves are full, and we are going to mock the shit out of this thing. Start your engines. theonion.com/heres-why-i-...

Switching back and forth between a book on the Weimar Republic and a spicy pirate dystopia is just like a normal way to be processing everything, yes?

woohooooooooooooo find us here @wireddotcom.bsky.social

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Fun how we're all getting to know the soon-to-be additions to Trump's Burn Book c. 2026. Oh sorry I meant to say cabinet picks.

the moral arc of the universe bends towards justice but also the universe is infinite so youre fucked I guess

Sitting here 8 months pregnant (with a girl) and having to go through this all stone cold sober.

My husband and I's next date night is going to be seeing Gladiator II, and guess which one of us is excited about this ridiculous bucket? YOU BET YOUR ASS IT'S ME.

My saddest day as a fact checker.

Running the Six Word Sci-Fi contest at WIRED is one of my favorite extra gigs, and I just have to spotlight this month's illustration by Yiran Jia because it's GORGEOUS. The prompt: a story about an unexpected medical breakthrough. The winner: Try blinking through her eyes, sir.

NaNoWriMo has been one of those beloved, niche communities for writers for decades, but over the past couple of years the organization has become embroiled in drama. This is the latest, and most public-facing, part of that drama.
