Inflation has truly hit home for rhubarb. They stopped including a free milk-bone in her prescription box.

Brian's book is one of the best, most necessary books of the spring that fundamentally changed how I see our current circumstances (and I read it before trump was in office). Preorder it and support his other events.

I've gotten some incredible proposals in the last few weeks. Get writing, finish those books, screw the rightwing tech dipshits.

no airport wants to be flown into less than the ottawa "international" airport

Yes!! www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

I don't agree with all of her policies but you don't mess with Mainers. They are, overall, tough as nails, good hearted, and extremely big fans of democracy. You haven't lived until you've caucused in a small Maine town or collected signatures for a People's Referendum.

Janet Mills is from my hometown in Maine, I've met her many times and know her family. She never, ever embarrasses me.

I will be at Winter Institute in Denver! If you are a bookseller (or publishing person) and would like to schedule a meeting, please lmk by DM or email. I would love to pitch you our stellar 2025 catalog and see people from here IRL!

Hoping to get clarity around the compliance language around DEI and gender equity (especially in the context of 1A and publishing) at this Americans for the Arts Office Hours Zoom this afternoon. www.americansforthearts.org/advocate/off...

Nowhere near the most important thing but this one hits home. Small presses can't survive without media mail.

My mug in the PW daily today, alongside Carey from Alice James, Michelle from Dzanc, and Casey from Little Puss. Thanks to @sophiastewart.bsky.social for the write-up!

Now that I've lived more of my life in the south than any other region (how?) I realize the things that truly make me miss new england--fish chowder, boiled dinners, baked beans, and brown bread/anadama bread.

Sharing a bit of Hub City coverage in @publisherswkly.bsky.social this month! www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

really, deeply funny and horrifying that over a fifteen year period the tea party/don't tread on me types metastasized into whatever this is

a colleague just informed me entangled is now trying to make "spredges" happen

February update to the tree taken out by Helene / mental health indicator

(and forget that I was in a webinar when i posted this and put "interviewed in by PW".....)

Thrilled to be interviewed in by @publisherswkly.bsky.social for "How Women Keep Reinventing Independent Publishing," alongside Michelle Dotter, @caseyplett.bsky.social, and other pals. I offered thoughts about cultivation, care, and resisting monoculture. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

I've always worn like a badge of honor that I'm 0% afraid of flying--I find it kind of exhilarating--but I'm actually kind of scared to get on a plane next week to go to winter institute?

Everyone in the Trump coalition voted for someone to get got. Most of them didn’t realize that they were that someone to someone else.

Leaving my emotional response to the side for a minute, we're all very familiar with the "cancel government assistance!" coming from people getting some kind of benefit they don't see as assistance thing? but voting to shrink the govt when your husband works for/adjacent to the govt? I just can't.

a writer sent me a blurb for the wrong book (ie one I'm not publishing) and I'm literally debating forwarding it to the correct press instead of dealing with the secondhand embarrassment head-on.

painting a room to a glen campbell playlist that can best be described as "male songwriters who are unreliable narrators about how shitty they've been to their significant others" (glen, tom t. hall, roger miller, jim croce, etc)

I've said it before, but every writer is trying to write something as evocative as Glen Campbell writing the line, "There's been a load of compromising, on the road to my horizon."

the self-pub writers are thinking about unionizing

severance and white lotus at the same time, we're so blessed.
