Madame Alfred Carriere is blooming. Now that is a proper name for a rose! She is a rampant climber and is thriving on my north-facing wall, where a lesser plant would struggle. I saw the huge one Vita Sackville-West planted a Sissinghurst on a north wall and copied her. She is thornless and lovely!

A new large study suggests gene FOXP4, which helps control our lungs, is involved in long covid . It’s a different gene than the one linked to severe Covid, showing that Long Covid is its own condition, not just a “slow recovery”. www.nature.com/articles/s41... #LongCovid #LongCovidScotland

Don't spend one minute feeling sorry for the law firms that capitulated. They prioritized their own profits over the rule of law, decency and democracy. They deserve the ridicule and scorn they are now receiving. History will remember them for the cowards they are.

Since Sen. Joni Ernst has doubled down on her nihilism, I’m re-upping my column: “We all are going to die” is punchy. It’s deflating, in a way that will surely tickle spirits as GOP leaders try to get Americans to sit back and tolerate cruel and draconian cuts. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

🚨 A statement: Over the past year James O’Brien & others have made claims about my departure from LBC. I’m restricted in what I can share with you but hope the statement below will draw a line under the matter. My focus is on moving forward. I am grateful for your continued support, Sangita

Performative hysteria. That’s what it is.

It's become almost commonplace to say that the promise of democracy is that it will deliver higher standards of living. But that was never the claim made by the Chartists, the women's suffrage movement or those who struggled to win democracy in the past. And it's a bad test to set for the present.

I know folk want to forget about #Covid, but another pandemic WILL happen. Setting up & funding pals to do things cost lives. It disgusts me. We must learn these lessons for next time.

While I'm not involved in any political party, I think @zackpolanski.bsky.social's analysis is correct. Thanks to Labour's multiple, infuriating failures, the Greens could become huge here, but only if they are bolder, more assertive and, yes, "eco-populist". www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

🧵 Over 76,000 people signed a petition to give adult trans ppl the right to transition, if they wish. They did so as part of a UK parliamentary process where, if a certain threshold in numbers is met, there must be a reply or a debate on the petition. The response was an exercise in gaslighting [1]

I left my phone on a train like an idiot and someone *handed it in at lost property* like something out of the 1950s, not bad for an island of strangers (also, thankyou)

Quoting Enoch Powell is never a coincidence. The Prime Minister knew what message he was sending — and who he was sending it to. Disgraceful.

You haven't heard of my disease...Don't worry, neither have most doctors.

Politicians seem to have conveniently forgotten about what essential workers went through during the pandemic and now apparently this government wants to basically vilify the same people that actually helped this country get through the pandemic . Absolutely shameful

If they suspend Habeas Corpus, it won't just be for "migrants" or "illegals" or "criminals." If they suspend Habeas Corpus it will be for you and me and whomever this regime decides is unfit, undesirable, and a threat or a problem. This is how it works. This is how it's always worked.

Today’s London flypast reminded me of my photo taken on 16 June 2019 … I heard the Lancaster flying over the Heritage Festival, St John’s Church , whipped out my phone and pointed it into the sun/sky. Lucky chance. Thrilled that the pic appeared in The Guardian two weeks later.
