It has to be a fair deal though and not an outright extortion. We provide military support in exchange for exclusive access. After their military equipment debt is paid off with interest, we pay them fair market value for their minerals.

The Republicans probably don’t want PR to be part of the US.

When you consider only 64% of eligible voters voted in 2024 and only about half voted for Trump, we are currently being governed by someone who has the approval of only 32% of the eligible voters. So way less than half believe Musk’s BS.

It’s not effective against Trump because he is a cult leader. In their eyes, he can do no wrong. They don’t understand their own hypocrisy. They literally worship him and have blind faith in him. They believe there is a reason for everything he does or doesn’t do.

Trump actually has no authority to rename it. Let’s be honest.

Don’t forget this is everyone’s problem. All those taxes cuts are really hurting us. This all started with Reagan. He theorized that if he cut taxes, Congress would be forced to cut spending, but they never, ever cut it enough. It’s been like this for 45 years.

Donald Trump just exported our nightmare to the world. He doesn’t just want to rule America. He wants to expand all over the world. Panama, Greenland, Gaza… what‘s next? I thought he campaigned on cutting spending. He wants to commit us to a long term investment in Gaza. The US is not a business!

He’ll tie up all the lawsuits in the court for years and years. If he loses any of them, he’ll appeal to SCOTUS and they will always rule in his favor. He bought the majority off. They have already given him Carte Blanche to do whatever he wants.

Trump thrives whenever he is sued. He knows how to work the legal system better than any criminal out there. He gets a whole Team of lawyers to delay the lawsuit. They’ll file continuance after continuance and push trial out as far as he can. It’s how he got elected before he could be convicted.

It’s interesting how we all assume all the activity that occurs in the nation whether Biden or Trump is associated with one person when in fact it was hundreds of people acting as advisers or intermediaries to make things happen.

I was just reading an article about the border deal. It seems that President Trump had made a deal with Mexico in 2019 to station 15,000 troops at the border. They have been withdrawn since then, now they are sending 10,000 back to the border and we have agreed to stop sending weapons to the Cartels

Trump has done his share of screwing people in the private sector so yes, I am worried he is going to screw this up. But as you say, time will tell. I agree with you about corrupt politicians. We badly need term limits and a ban on making money in the private sector while office.

Yes, because he tends to make big moves which could either send the markets soaring or crash it

The rest of you are forcing people like me to bet our life’s savings on Trump succeeding. I would have rather just retired in peace with the status quo, but that is not an option now.
comment in response to

That would be AMAZING! I find the people that support Trump are either those who have nothing to lose do it doesn’t matter if he fails because in the end they haven’t lost anything or the people that have so much money it doesn’t matter if they lose some of it because they will be okay if he fails.

I’ve lost plenty of times, but never failed as much as Trump. I don’t hate the man, but his followers obviously hate people like me who doubt him.

I’m about to retire. I’ve worked and saved my whole career for this. I have enough saved plus Social Security to keep the same standard of living. Now we elected a risk-taker as President who wants to radically change everything. It might work or I could end up living in poverty again. I’m nervous.

When a team picks a quarterback, do they take the one with a history of making good passes and few interceptions or do they choose the guy who occasionally throws a touchdown but also throws lots of interceptions? We chose the latter. Maybe he’ll succeed, but I doubt it.

I’m not a hater. I’m a realist. I usually hire people based on their qualifications, experience and track record of success. Please convince me based on Trump’s track record why he is the best mad for the job.

It’s obvious you love playing the Devil’s advocate. Start telling all of us why Trump is so much better a leader than everyone else? What is he going to do differently so he doesn’t fail this time?

Trump has been involved in Politics since 2016. He claims to have lost money while President last time. How about you brag about his current business success since you think he is such a genius.
comment in response to

Yeah, let’s talk about his successes. He just made $6 billion selling his own Cryptocurrency to his supporters while he was President. Is that a conflict of interest? If he had taken his inheritance and invested it in a simple index fund in the stock market, he would have far more money now

4) Trump Vodka - failed 2011
5) Trump Mortgage- failed 2007
6) GoTrump.com - failed 2007
7) Trump Steaks- failed 2007
And the list goes on and on. He has hundreds of lawsuits filed against him for non-payment of contracts.

I have worked for the same company for 40 years. We make sophisticated flight computers. No business failures.
Trump business failures;
1)Trump Taj Mahal went bankrupt in 1991
2) Trump Shuttle- defaulted on loans 1989
3) Trump University- forced out of business 2011

At this point, all we can do is wait and see. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I am a fool to look at history and try and learn from it. Maybe Trump is a powerful magician who is going to become the greatest human being in history. Then again, maybe not.

All I know is that tariffs haven’t worked out for lots of countries in the past. Targeted tariffs work, but across the board tariffs have spotty success. Maybe Trump is a genius, but his track record of failed businesses says otherwise. He’s had 6 bankruptcies. And over 20 product failures.

How much do you really know about how Social Security works? Do you know when it’s going to run out of money? Do you understand the consequences of not taxing it? Are you an expert on Social Security?
comment in response to

Paying extra isn’t a big deal if your income is comfortable, but seniors on fixed income who have choose between food and medicine will be in trouble. There still aren’t any laws exempting Social Security from taxes. If they pass that, it’s simply accelerating the time when it becomes insolvent.

Dream on about the Utopia that Trump is not going to create, unless of course he declares martial law, disbands Congress and takes over as a dictator.

I know it was for lots of different reasons. I work with people who voted for Trump. Lots of them are pissed off about the tariffs potential to raise prices. About 1/3 of them say that if prices go up, they are done with him. You have your reasons for voting him, but not everyone is like you.
comment in response to
post
And they are going up again. A lot of people voted for Trump for only one reason; they wanted prices to go down and they wanted inflation to go away. By imposing tariffs, he breaks that promise and alienates 1/3 of his voters. That means he will lose Congress in 2 years and the Trump train stops.

The idiocy of this issue is that the US, a country of 330 million people and infinitely more resources, is expecting Canada, a country of just 40 million, to do a better job patrolling their mutual 5,000 mile long border. Rather like a big bully expecting a little kid to serve him….

It’s interesting to see how vehemently Troop supporters claim that only the prices of foreign goods are going to go up. They are all in for a big surprise. American companies will charge whatever price makes them the most profit. That’s how capitalism works.
