5. Validate your own feelings. If you're scared, be scared. Don't race to action or try to argue it away. Feel it. Tell yourself, "Yup, this is scary. It's normal to be afraid." But don't dwell there. Watch as the feeling burns itself off, and be grateful for the respite.

4. Remind yourself the anxiety is based on powerlessness. Pick out one thing you want to change, and do a little of that work steadily. Exert a little energy consistently to make a corner of the world a little better.

3. Remind yourself the anxiety is based on fear of the unknown, which is a wide, wide, wide range. Don't assume your nightmare version is guaranteed. Think of other nations, other eras, other forms of autocracy, and how they played out. Some of those cultures went on to flourish.
