i've been tinkering with a retrocomputing side project recently and it's just so, so refreshing. just me and the text editor and some emulated chips that do One (1) thing ever

Hey quick spoiler for the video game Mindseye (2025) but when you beat the game you unlock “free roam mode” which contains quite literally nothing, and you are forced to play as this character by default and can not change anything about him.

yes, absolutely loved the winter-prep stuff. getting crockpots and pickling going for the first time and feeling some relief as the frost started to creep down from the hills was magical!

picked up the original Phantom Brave recently and yeah... i was loving it, but i got buried alive by just too many different things to level up and just a few too many cliffs to get over. i could have also gotten cheesy with it, but it didn't really feel good. Disgaea 3 remains the only NIS i beat

the ten foot drop in the fireman pole laundry chute is similarly scary. slip on a sock that fell out of your hands and plummet into a confined space with a big metal pole? sure!

sometimes the doctorate in my name feels like a useless ornament, but... it's also familiar!

Oh, same exact same. I'll send you a letter by pigeon once in a while from my mountain to yours!

yeah... it feels like the author holds a total misapprehension of what it even means to build and maintain something, abstract code structures or otherwise. like just barely scraping over the line is somehow the goal or point of it all

Like I get why people add those things but you're shooting your UX in the foot if players are having their first impression and also being bombarded with a bunch of nonsense that isn't actually the game
