so i'm advocating that if there has to be wide discourse about this, for the sake of those without other inroads to getting funding...the conversation HAS to be about the reasons alzara specifically failed, not about the model itself. we have too fucking few ways of getting new devs a start as it is

It is in fact likely when you’re backing a project that it may not make it to the end and I also caution that yes, it’s common for games to need more funding beyond what is provided for a Kickstarter, but such a high profile fall like this is especially catastrophic to trusting devs going forward

A part of me makes me think our earlier demo push might have benefited a lot from not being in the 2-week / next fest window where everyone is trying to get demos out for attention

That said more games in there does show that there’s an interest in players checking out games through events like this - it’s growing in amount of games and people engaging with it every few months. It’s just now that the attention is split across way more games. It’s def a nice thing to have!

as a person looking for games to play I do find it very difficult / overwhelming to find games to sit down and play when even a single genre could have like hundreds of games within it. A smaller curated set is always more preferable but Steam’s always preferred quantity above else for this stuff

speaking from the perspective of a dev you absolutely should still include your game in these but without real pushing and prior marketing you’re not gonna see promising results, which is not dissimilar to how building up Steam wishlists in general requires strong momentum outside it first

yup, part of why I put myself up with this in the first place is because talking about games with friends online is a huge part of the enjoyment sometimes!!

even then i think some people are so overtly extreme about it. yeah you obviously shouldn't say story related things because that does ruin the game in a sense, but it is totally okay to like, explain what it's like to *play* the game just a bit lol

As for spoilers affecting enjoyment, I've really resigned to the fact that with some exceptions, spoilers are just an inevitability and it's okay to have things told to me before i actually engage in a work, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. it's what it is

This kind of dynamic also I think is why short and sweet games do a lot more for me, but I really love my long ass adventures too, I just have to accept that it will probably take me months, if not even more than a year to really get through those sometimes.

All of it is a side effect of how extremely accessible discourse on media is due to this social media hellscape we live in. we were not meant for this kind of thing ya know!

I do not want to say Splatoon 3 as my answer but it was unfortunately the only thing I played this weekend LOL
