Earning my money today with the group of kids who like to press all the buttons.

Luxon airily floats the idea of reopening Marsden Point, is overruled the next day on cost grounds by [checks notes, rubs eyes, squints] Shane Jones. www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-adv...

From late next month, primary teachers with a job offer from an accredited employer in the country will be able to apply for residency without first working for two years. It comes after a warning from the Ministry of Education schools could be short 1250 teachers this year. #kiwi #newzealand

😆 The comments on this summarise how stupid this is. Such as: Why are there recyclables in there? How irresponsible.. What's that address on that courier bag? That should be a tell. But most important... what's on that VHS tape??!?

This article highlights the continuing misogyny we have in this country. If you see someone you know making nasty comments, call them out. We as a community need to work together to change this culture. It starts by calling out people you know for being shitty. Especially cis het white men. #nzpol

webworm can report that legal threats have been made to gender-affirming healthcare professionals in new zealand. the letter puts recipients “on notice” that they may one day face “legal action” for offering gender affirming care. health NZ has responded: www.webworm.co/p/legalthrea...

I joined InternetNZ last night because I've seen that the Free Speech Union has suddenly taken an interest and is trying to unbalance it in their favour. If you want to balance that out you might want to join too? I'm happy to fund if $$ are an issue! internetnz.nz/membership/

Compliance in DV is also incredibly random and often arbitrary. Story in thread.

ManUp not based on evidence, but on Tamaki's books. Poses incredible danger for women & kids "who are required to obey, to be silent & do what they are told... It increases the sense of entitlement, but it also increases the violence when that sense of entitlement isn't met with complete obedience."

Worst. Episode. EVER.

Seven arrests as 80 police walk council sewage workers through protest lines Rotorua hapū says the wastewater pipeline would run through the wahi tapu where up to 153 people were buried by the eruption of Mt Tarawera #nzpol

Like the saying goes: "Disability is the Only minority anyone can join at any time, and the only one everyone *will* join if they're lucky enough to live that long"

My cartoon in today's www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605... The school lunch programme is an absolute disaster. From the start it's been clear that money is all that's important. The contract by the Compass Group hoovers up hundreds & thousands of dollars. That's it. That's all that matters.

David Seymour wants to make it easier to sell our assets, hocking NZ off to the highest bidder…and he wonders why I don’t agree with him. Investing in NZ is a privilege, let’s keep it that way!

#NZpol Seymour communicates in a deeply insidious, manipulative fashion. He has parlayed what was at one point a 0.5%-on-life-support Party that *could've been finished off* were it not for their political patron, National, into being Dep PM. We should *never* think he doesn't know what he's doing.

There's no longer any denying it. The US and Russia are now allies, aligned against Europe. And we need to scramble like mad to work out what to do.

NZ government IT systems need to get off US-based cloud systems ASAP, as a matter of national security. When critical systems can be disabled on the whim of an autocrat it is pure folly to remain exposed any longer than necessary. (Actually it was a folly to allow it in the first place.) #nzpol

#AtlasNetwork is the propaganda/political infiltration/regime change arm of Big Oil and Coal

Hipkins says Labour didn’t just set up the free school lunch programme to feed students. “It was also about creating jobs, connecting schools with communities, and actually dealing with overall well being for the kids and for their families,” he says. #nzpol www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

Revoke his citizenship and force the sale of his property. He's neither of good character nor doing anything for our economy.

RNZ's Maia Ingoe looks at new research highlighting a circular pattern in submissions on road spending: we must spend more $ on roads because people don't have good alternatives to driving, we must also not spend $ on alternatives bc we need it to upgrade+maintain roads www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Christopher Luxon has set the bar for ministerial conduct so low Ministers have to sack themselves. Andrew Bayly should’ve been gone months ago. After finding out about the latest allegation on Wednesday, the PM waited days for him to resign when he should’ve been sacked asap.

Andrew Bayly resigns as minister after ‘incident’ with staff www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

Thank you to Green MP Julie Anne Genter for sharing such an important perspective, especially on behalf of those of us who feel we can’t ❤️ #nzpol @nzgreensglobal.bsky.social @julieannegenter.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/emilywri...

A net loss of 72,000 New Zealand citizens in the 2024 calendar year. This is the worst recorded result for a calendar year. This Govt continues to set new records.

I am not good at promotion but I thought I'd share a short video I did to encourage a group of kids participating in this year's Lit Quiz www.youtube.com/shorts/aA-gx... #childrensbooks

There's a lot going on in this article (including a repetition of the line about 'getting more value' out of our desperately underfunded research system 😭) but what I note is...Reti says 'I haven’t reached a conclusion' on whether the PM's Chief Science Advisor role will be filled again.

If you want to express disgust at something, “Ka ruaki te poaka” is a colourful way to do it. Nā wai tēnei tina i tuku ki te kura? Ka ruaki te poaka! Who sent this lunch to the school? A pig would vomit! #tereoMāori #tereo #kikorangi

Oh so very true.

National MP Andrew Bayly resigns over 'inappropriate' incident with a staff member which he minimises in a statement but he had to resign which means it was more egregious than he says. Imo, half of ACT MPs and NZF MOs should also be gone but Luxon’s own negotiating ineptness means he can’t insist.

Given what has been generally acceptable in the National government, and what Bayly specifically has gotten away with in the past, I suspect the details of this incident are going to be somewhat beyond what the statement would like us to infer.
