🚨 🚨 GRANT ALERT: 🚨 🚨 The 2025 XENO PRIZE for Performance Art (deadline April 1, 2025) awards $5000 in support of new work by an early-career LGBTQ+-identifying performance artist working in one of the 26 United States where laws and policies restrict gender-affirming care.

went out to Rex as a spectator for the first time. we liked it more than we thought we would. Sad that all of the marching bands were cancelled due to pending weather, but glad that we were able to actually go out Happy Mardi Gras!

I wonder if there's a way to solve connections by hitting shuffle enough times, like if there's an algorithm that prevents a group of four from appearing in the same row so you can deduce it by seeing what patterns don't show up

one more day of adjudicating bands in Metairie. Happy Lundi Gras

Lots of composers and performers to celebrate for #WomensHistoryMonth, here's a fantastic work for trombones and fixed media by Eve Beglarian www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGVI...

office for the evening. happy adjudicating Metairie Mardi Gras Day!

lots of women composers and performers that can be celebrated for #WomensHistoryMonth I've shared this before, but it's worth another, the 2m piece that launched Erin Gee's brand and career www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OFe...

my partner is watching Classic Who and got to Peri's first ep. Read her wiki, I had no idea that JNT thought she was actually American, so Nicola Bryant used the accent for all rehearsals and public appearances for years. It's bizarre bc her accent is so clearly fake. That's pre-internet for you

This quote from John Oliver on Hot ones has stuck with me: "The more flawed you realize things are systemically...the more you encounter people working incredibly hard to change things...Even as you're waiting for major change that might not come, incremental change is possible and valuable."

that time when your finishing up a big grant application in the middle of a Mardi Gras parade

For the percussion sextet I'm brainstorming, I want 3 sections: high, medium, low. Using crotales for high, vibraphone for medium. Low is proving challenging bc i want pitched, but logistics need to be lightweight which takes marimba and timpani out. Early days, I'll figure it out. #composition

Earlier today I watched Lambda Legal's online info session on gender markers & passports. In this thread I'll give a brief summary of some of their main points. 1. If you have a current passport on which you've previously changed your gender marker, it's still valid. Even the State Dept says so.

A new $15 million jazz fellowship is granting 50 artists over the age of 62 a $100,000 grant, professional support and performance opportunities

RIP Michelle Trachtenberg. Thank you not only for your work as an actress but also as a strong supporting voice for Charisma Carpenter's toxic behind-the-scenes experiences on Buffy/Angel. You will be missed.

I'm well practiced at drafting a budget proposal for a grant. I'm less practiced at drafting a budget proposal for a newly-merged org that combines two budgets into one and is adding a new set of numbers for a new festival that we're putting on this coming year. Thank goodness for #cat breaks.

Trying to decide if i'm able to add a couple of extra days in PDX at the end of my residency in western OR at the end of April. Partially contingent on funds for housing and transport since my brother is going to be out of town

logistical mapping for a new percussion sextet work #composition #newmusic #percussion

This is still a draft, but the #DEI position that I hold for the org that I'm going to be ED of (which I'm blanking just because it's not official yet) will be close to this #DiversityMatters

roux developing. so relaxing.

so much to do and not enough allergy medication to do it

struggling with a professional tone for a segment of an upcoming announcement that boils down to "diversity still matters and I'd rather lose federal/state grant money than stop programming marginalized composers, but i'm also trying to expand my org and actually pay people fairly, so plz donate"

splotter.nl, a Netherlands board gaming company, has been informed by their US distributor (GTS) that due to the unknown impact of new tariffs, GTS has cancelled their entire preorder of their upcoming game that would be shipped to the US BGG thread here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/34627...

I only use my pressure cooker (Instantpot) for one recipe, but it's such a staple that I can't bring myself to get rid of it. I guess I could try to find more recipes? but pressure cookers feel like shortcut devices and these days I've been favoring long let-the-flavor-soak kind of recipes instead

waiting for krewe du vieux. whoooooo!

There needs to be a you-always-have-too-many-chrome-tabs-and-windows-open support group

For those that don't know about me or my creative practice, a good way to do so is through the sound pudding interview I did with @adamscottneal.bsky.social soundpudding.com/career-pivot... Hi there, it's nice to meet you.

One of the more important lessons I learned in my undergrad comp lessons was: when given a choice to finish a musical phrase with either something that would be analytically/theoretically correct versus something feels right, choose what feels right every time
