Looking for photos of the 2-in Medium Trench Mortar, (Toffee Apple or Plum Pudding), along with its accessories-crate, periscope, and other equipment-in use in the trenches. Can anyone #help with pictures, sources or references? Any help is much appreciated! #FWW #Archaeology

Well, I am finally over the hump of work in writing my next book, and I have found ways to offload a couple of other things in my life, so capacity has opened up again. My research work for private clients is back in business and open for orders! www.fourteeneighteen.co.uk

I'm now back from my first battlefield tour of 2025 & it's been an excellent tour especially because of the support & enthusiasm from the staff & students of Hazel Grove High School. This tour was arranged by Adaptable Travel #WW1 #FWW #History

Here's a new blog post, about Private Walter Arnold of the 49th Divisional Cyclist Company. Before #WW1, he was a spring maker for Messrs. George Hattersley of Keighley. In 1915 he suffered a gunshot wound in the spine and died in hospital a few days later: www.menofworth.org.uk/research/kei...

1/ Our latest blog post is about Private James Turnbull, who was invalided out of #WW1 with a gunshot wound, this was what they would have referred to as a 'Blighty wound,' and it meant he went back home to Blighty (England.) His story is here: www.menofworth.org.uk/research/kei... Vesta Tilley...

This time last year I took one of my favourite photos of the Thiepval Memorial - cannot wait to be back there soon in a couple days time.

One of our VADs went on to become a successful actress on stage and television. Read her story here: www.menofworth.org.uk/keighley/vad...

Had almost forgotten that I ever produced this. Still gets the odd view, and it still works as advice. #genealogy #ww1 #FWW www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMCN...

Remembering Lt. Col. John Wilfred Stokes RAMC, former pupil of St. John’s School Leatherhead, who died on 10 February 1916. A pre war Territorial, the outbreak of hostilities saw John promoted to Lt. Col. & given command of 3rd West Riding Field Ambulance. 1 @thegreatwargroup.bsky.social #WW1 #FWW

Our latest #WW1 blog post is about #Keighley man Private William James Morrison, who was shot and killed in action in 1915. It's tragic to see a young life cut short and it must have been devastating for his widowed mother and his brother and sister: www.menofworth.org.uk/research/kei...

Good luck or bad luck? Violet Jessop survived the RMS Olympic after it crashed in 1911; and she survived the sinking of RMS Titanic a year later. During WWI, she was a nurse on the hospital ship HMHS Britannic when it hit a naval mine. She helped patients evacuate before abandoning ship herself.

photos of F A Sellers (MC) and his fiance, Grace Lilian Malin (who served as a VAD)..There are over 1700 letters in the archive at IWM.Her letters contain interesting notes on her work as a VAD nurse in a local hospital in Derby #WW1 #womenshistory www.iwm.org.uk/collections/...

A volunteer at the Labour Archives,I catalogued documents relating to Capt Mildred. They were related to his role in #WW1 when he was in charge of Conscientious Objectors awaiting decisions made by Appeal Tribunals.A compassionate man who treated the COs well historicalclues.blogspot.com/2015/06/.

No longer on X so I’ll try to post as many of these edited biographies of St. John’s School Leatherhead boys who fell in the Great War, on the anniversaries of their deaths. It appears the School & its Archives haven’t moved here yet, so no tags. Comments welcome & hope you find them of interest. 1

Here's the #WW1 story of Lance Corporal Raymond Douglas Tilbrook. Born and lived #Keighley, he was a Cooperative Society branch manager. He met, married Sarah McKechnie and lived at Cross Roads before the war: www.menofworth.org.uk/research/cro... He was shot whilst fetching the food for the lads.

The Battle of Jutland - in conversation with naval historian Chris Sams. Our latest podcast is out next Sunday. #WW1 #FWW

Just occasionally you stumble across a bit of an artist from 109 years ago, in #WW1... Descriptions in Alt Text.

#WW1 Here's a plea for people to remember to add 'alt text' to all of the images you post, particularly when photos are crucial to get your message across. These descriptions are essential for partially sighted readers. You can set your account to prompt you to add the alt text each time:

1. Continuing commemorating the men who served in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry: Private Richard Henry Valentine Hoskings. Regiment King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Service No. 7794. Regiment Northumberland Fusiliers. #WW1 #koyli #history

@lsutherland.bsky.social Here's 1 of 103 new names added to Keighley's #WW1 roll of honour in Nov last year. Luther McKechnie was 1 of 4 men killed, sheltering in a trench behind their gun. Two of these men were father and son! Visit Luther's page to find out: www.menofworth.org.uk/cross-roads/...
