Once upon a time, these were actions by a private company. Now they are actions being undertaken by a high-ranking government official, in connection with his public activities. This raises 1A issues that didn’t exist before.

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down. For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now Meanwhile...

Obviously this is bad and very stupid, but the tenor of this kind of Trump communique is very funny to me. It's a real HOA energy, just someone being annoying and small who knows they're being that way, and who more or less sees that as both their highest personal calling and the purpose of the job.

"Spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." "A lawyer at advertising conglomerate Interpublic Group fielded a phone call ... from a lawyer at X. The message was clear ... Get your clients to spend more on Elon Musk’s social-media platform, or else." A merger could be tanked. Gift!

To the @GOP senators and Congressmen who claim to support Ukraine, you do have some power… if you’re unwilling to exercise it then don’t pretend to care about your country more than your political career:

"Now is the moment to recognize the scale of the seismic change unfolding, and to find new ways to live in the world that a very different kind of America is beginning to create." Not for the first time, I emphatically agree with @anneapplebaum.bsky.social. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

The Trump administration is trying to remake the foundations of the administrative state & democratic practice at home (through authoritarian rule) while simultaneously antagonizing its historic allies, embracing key adversaries like Russia, & disavowing its orientation to more open markets.

It’s another sign that, as the Trump-Musk assault on the state generates specific awful outcomes, it will reveal how thin the justificatory fictions the duo are spinning truly are—and grow harder and harder for Republicans to defend.

Republican Senator just back from 🇺🇦 disagrees with Trump’s capitulation to Putin👇🏽

Anna you obviously have DOGE Derangement Syndrome (DDS) smh

Dear @nytimes.com: If *you yourselves* know that what Trump is saying is nonsense, put that in the headline.

Dynamic to watch: Republicans who can't bear what Trump is doing to their constituents but who are too scared to speak up against it.

No one in Republican world seems to have a lot of curiosity about why Musk needs people’s personal data to engage in government cost cutting

This cartoon by @mluckovich.bsky.social is getting banned on Twitter. Because of course it is.

NBC News confirms: An IRS employee affiliated with Elon Musk's DOGE has accessed an IRS system that holds sensitive taxpayer information. @msnbc.com

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

"Pressure is building for Democrats to embrace a more timely, cohesive and yes, more aggressive response to the Trump/ Musk incursion. The blue state Governors’ COVID briefings offer the perfect model." Jennifer Schulze (@newsjennifer.bsky.social) calls for daily Dem counter-narrative briefings.

1/ Was fortunate enough to join @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.social this morning. Was asked what I thought elected Democrats should be doing right now. My answer was: Show up. Not at locked buildings in DC, but places around the country already experiencing the harms of Trump admin actions.

Trump-Musk Scandal at USAID Takes Unnerving Turn With Vile Leaked Memo: employees threatened with firing if they talk to media about how aid shutdown is hurting millions around the world newrepublic.com/article/1915... via @newrepublic.com

American institutions—from the media to Congress—continue to underreact to the unraveling of our democracy. Overseas our media would not hesitate to call what we’re living through a full-blown autocratic coup. Here's my attempt at the story they should write: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-trump...

Gutting the CDC right as we’re on the cusp of major outbreaks of transmissible diseases is a very bad idea.

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

What the hell is happening this past week? And, where is the political resistance in Washington? @djrothkopf.bsky.social and @normornstein.bsky.social break all of this down on DSR Word's Matter and why Washington needs a Democrat who is willing to say “f*ck you.” podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Danielle R. Sassoon, Manhattan’s acting U.S. attorney, resigned on Thursday rather than obey a Justice Department order that she drop a corruption case against New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams, that she had championed, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.

8. Use your town square Every one of us has a town square. It may include our social media accounts, our local book club or dinner table. Use your town square to speak out in favor of democracy and against what Republicans are doing. Do not shy away from difficult conversations; seek them out.

This is absolutely insane. Musk’s DOGE crew just straight up *took* $80 million from an NYC bank account!

This is just one of thousands of harrowing stories told about the U.S. Government abandoning Americans abroad in the USAID shutdown. This is Benghazi times a million. 1/
