I should add that, even leaving aside if Boelter were to be convicted of a first-degree murder charge, convictions for the attack on the Hoffmans could increase his criminal history score for the murders of the Hortmans, which would substantially increase the guidelines range for those crimes.

Two-thirds of a Minnesota prison sentence must be served in prison, and a third is served on supervised release (parole, more or less).

In Minnesota, typically sentences run concurrently (two sentences of 12 months would be served as 12 months, not 24 months). But sentences for intentional second-degree murder may be sentenced consecutively.

The Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines are mandatory, unless there are grounds for a departure, and provide for a sentence of 261-367 months in prison for each count of intentional second degree murder (assuming Boelter has no criminal history score, which seems likely to be true).

It's conceivable, though it strikes me as very unlikely, that, given Boelter's age, he could be offered an early plea to intentional second-degree murder (which carries a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years in prison) with an upward departure from the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines.

In Minnesota, first degree premeditated murder carries a mandatory sentence of life without parole. Indictments are unusual and typically only used where required - almost all felonies are charged by complaint. It will probably take weeks to a couple of months before Boelter is indicted.

Spreading disinformation has become reflexive for many so-called “conservatives” that have been captured by the Trumpist mind virus.

Party affiliation, from my perspective, is not the real issue. The TRUTH is.

This is clearly a plan to tap in to Trump's promise to build 10 new corporate-run cities on federal land. But it seems like a strange way to announce it. This would extend Trump's "emergency" powers to create new tech-controlled zones on public land. frontiervalley.com

I know but implicit in this statement is that Democrats cater to the Marxists (and then the Marxists get violent when they don’t get their way).

The basic point here is, what Lee is saying is not true, but even if it were, who cares? Whether the assailant is a Marxist or Democrat doesn’t make the act less worthy of condemnation. More on moral disengagement in this post, from my Substack course open.substack.com/pub/asharang...

Finally, a recurring one that is implicit this disinfo and divisive rhetoric generally that seeks to excuse violent behavior based on identities (race, legal status, party affiliation, etc.) is Dehumanization. This one, like the second one above, minimizes harm because the recipient is not worthy 4/

A second one going on is Attribution of Blame, a.k.a. blaming the victim. “This is what happens when X….” This strategy seeks to minimize the harm caused by the action on the victim, because hey! They deserved it! We Told You So. Etc. Again, no need to feel bad. 3/

The most obvious moral disengagement strategy going on here (and his other tweets) is Displacement of Responsibility: the assailant isn’t “us,” it’s “them” (and so you shouldn’t feel bad/shouldn’t care). DoR creates distance and removes agency from the action, absolving the need to do anything 2/
