this is an embarrassing thing for this guy to say in public but also touches on something that constantly rankles me, which is the vague idea of "feeling unsafe" as a problem that someone else needs to solve for you regardless of whether you are actually unsafe or not

I used to regularly check the NHC site, because hurricanes landing anywhere from Virginia to Mississippi and beyond can and have directly affected my job, and I just realized that I haven't checked it more than once this year because I don't trust the data or institution anymore. That sucks.
