In the end we were able to get into the courtroom — probably 1/10th of the public waiting also got in. I’ll be writing about it for @theverge.com so keep your eyes peeled for that this weekend!

There was a protest outside the courthouse today during Mangione’s hearing. We could hear them from the courtroom cheering.

Also based on pics online, there are 2-3 trucks with Luigi/healthcare stuff on the sides driving around. If anyone is at the protest please send pics!

Luigi update: Hard to explain how much this feels like waiting to get into the club. Crazy number of media, crazy number of supporters, I have stood in multiple random lines and still not sure we’ll get in.

Courthouse is packed, probably about 100 people in line in the hallway. Unclear how many seats there will be for people in the courtroom.

In 2019 I had the life changing opportunity to visit Manzanar, one of 10 camps where Japanese Americans were incarcerated. Here are some photos from my trip. 1: Camp gardens where they used to be 2: Monument at the Manzanar cemetery 3: A reconstructed basketball hoop 4: Graffiti etched into cement

The CFPB just won $120 million for CashApp users who were victims of fraud and who CashApp basically ignored when they needed help. The CFPB is like the most powerful Karen you wish you knew when a company fucks you over. Ask yourself why rich people want it gone www.theverge.com/2025/1/17/24...

There’s also interesting background to the Trump 1.0 administration trying to get data from Twitter without a judge. They tried to unmask an “alt-gov” account critical of the administration. Back then, Twitter sued DHS to stop the data grab. Would Musk do the same? Would Meta?

This is what you get when tech companies that collect our most sensitive and precise interactions with one another kiss the ring. Your users do not trust you. www.theverge.com/2025/1/16/24...
