This week's stock market:

Over 3,500 probationary employees in the SB/SE division of IRS will be terminated tomorrow. Management received email at 10:15am MST.

All I'm saying is that if you're on Medicare or Social Security and you voted for Trump don't come to me when your benefits get deleted and you're homeless. Pull on those bootstraps or STFU.

We have been careful to avoid using the word coup, but it’s time to call it what it is—this is a coup. Trump signed an executive order granting only the attorney general or the president the authority to interpret laws executed by the executive branch.

REPOST if you support our federal workforce and know how dedicated they are to their jobs. Show them you appreciate them!

Speaker Mike Johnson agrees “wholeheartedly” that Trump can make sweeping cuts to federal spending without the approval of Congress. This is in opposition to our Constitution’s separation of powers & the Congress he represents

This week, we will probably discover if our judiciary will fall to authoritarianism. It appears that our Vice President was absent on the day that the teacher taught about the three branches of government and checks & balances.

I wrote about the egg hoarding at Costco this morning, and what it says about America (and billionaires in particular). My Substack is a reader supported publication. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber if this work is meaningful to you! open.substack.com/pub/newslett...

The cognitive dissonance of getting up every morning and making coffee and walking the dog and going to meetings and answering emails and wondering what to make for dinner while there is a real live actual coup d’etat happening is BONKERS

I have had no contact with most of my extended family (& some of my friends) since last summer for political reasons. While I wanted to inform them about Project 2025 & discuss policy, they chose to engage in insults & name calling. As the past few weeks have unfolded, I am at peace with my stance.

I worked for the government for years and was trained to protect personal information and not disclose anything to unauthorized persons. Elon Musk, a non-government employee who has not been elected to anything, is now in possession of information on all citizens. Abhorrent!

The only two groups that I've seen who deeply understand the spiritual peril we are in: Black women and Jewish women. I'm talking about feeling it in the cells, our bones. Like, making emergency exit plans. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, just saying the truth.

Because they are evil, we must stand up to them. But because they are also stupid, we needn’t be afraid to.

It is only a matter of time until there is a nationwide abortion ban and limited access to contraception. www.cbsnews.com/news/governm...

Yesterday, the new administration rescinded the Biden Executive Order which lowered prescription drug costs for Medicare & Medicaid beneficiaries. Last summer, my sister-in-law chose to resort to name-calling & insults rather than engage in a discussion with me about Project 2025 & Trump's agenda.

If you are scared this morning, I see you and I love you. There are many, MANY people who feel like you, who see the truth, who aren’t manipulated by the lies and who don’t root for the hate.

Your children leave the nest, but you really never stop being a parent. open.substack.com/pub/miawqual...

If you perform at the Trump inauguration or at any related events you are endorsing him. Full stop. And it’s no more defensible than if you performed for Putin or Orban or in the 1930s for the German chancellor. You can dress it up all you want but that’s what it is.

Before Christmas, I posted to request prayers for a dear friend. I appreciate those who obliged, and I now, unfortunately, must tell you that this morning, my friend @mikeschlesinger.bsky.social Michael Schlesinger passed away.

Watching @andersoncooperfnz.bsky.social and @bravoandy.bsky.social on NYE. For whatever reason, they always make me feel seen.

In the 1980s, did our parents feel the same way about the 1940s as we do about those days now?

I have survived Christmas/Hanukkah, otherwise known as the holidays, but this time of year is still difficult. I sat on the edge of the bed this morning in tears. If you are also just trying to get through these days, I see you. Hang tough. We are in this together.

Hope and optimism are radical choices, especially in dark seasons. If you have hope, hold it for others. If you don’t have hope, remember that someone else does.
