The Day of the Jackal is an incredible movie I had never heard of. It tracks a hitman’s every maneuver as he keeps getting nearly found out, and it follows the officials who are trying to track him down. Ebert gave it 4. It’s on Kurosawa’s top 100, which maybe I should read. 4/4 #filmsky

Duel is a really good movie from 1971 that I've seen twice now. I think that director might have a future in this business. Also it was playing at the Heights Theater, which is the best in the Cities. I'd literally rather stare at my wall than go to an AMC.

At 4pm today, TPT, our local PBS station was showing Finding Your Roots. Meanwhile, KARE 11 news was saying that credit cards are debt and debit cards only spend money you have. Funny how one is literally the news and the other is actually informative. ABC, CBS, and NBC are all worthless.

Mon Oncle feels like a silent movie, but in color and Tati uses sound just as cleverly as the visuals. They switch between a gorgeous modern house that Ebert called a “monstrosity”, a more old-timey downtown area, and a factory that makes nothing but plastic hoses. 4/4 #filmsky

The Boys from Brazil was written by Ira Levin, who also wrote Rosemary’s Baby and Stepford Wives, and it’s every bit as good. The movie is bizarre and it all makes sense once you get to the twist. Plus they think nazis are bad, which apparently isn’t what Tim Walz thinks anymore. 4/4 #filmsky
