New screencast about #TurfGvX that explains the what, how, and why of this number.

🎙️ Just published a new #ATC2x episode: Top 10 posts of 2024, plus app and podcast recommendations. Show page with all the links here:

I've been having some discussions about GP and GDD, and have recommended this post for a look at similarities and differences between the two.

Relevant to your line of work? @grassbotnetwork.com

December-February 2024-25 temperature ranking since 1895-96 according to Prism climate data. Globally, this was the 2nd warmest Dec-Feb period, but the Contiguous U.S. was the outlier. Congrats!

December-February 2024-25 precipitation ranking since 1895-96 according to Prism climate data. Many more areas are in shades of brown/red than are in shades of blue/green.

Recently had an inquiry about this. N mineralisation estimates are made from soil organic matter (humus) test results. One does not use total organic material (#OM246) data for mineralisation estimates. These are two completely different tests.

This is the online handout for my seminars in Niagara Falls at The Canadian Golf Course Management Conference. I'll update it with more information based on what questions come up during the seminars.

I listened with great pleasure to the recent USGA Green Section podcast with Rod Lingle. I think you will enjoy this too.

So that podcast account has a couple glitches, but it did announce the new episode, and the replies to that post do show up as comments. I also take this chance to recommend the episode. It's all over the place, in a good way. #TurfAndTrains

Turfgrass Twilight Zone: "where warm-season grasses can be grown in summer but are not wholly satisfactory in winter and where cool-season grasses do well except in the summer"

The thumbnail didn't show up, so I'll get right to the point by sharing this chart from that post. You can find the #ClipVol range at which you get the desired green speed. #TurfHacks

Here's my occasional reminder of ATC's free email newsletters, where you can get turf information updates on topics and at frequencies of your choice. #TurfReads

New on the ATC blog, with something I explained in real life during a golf course visit last week. Here's how to take your #ClipVol data and quickly get an idea of what you are trying to do with the measurements.

If you listen to any of the ATC podcasts, you can follow the @asianturfgrass.com account which is set up to auto-post the new episodes as they are published.

Happy Valentine's Day

Yesterday (Thailand time) I spoke with University of Florida students about turf nutrition research. Here's a link to the slides and online handout.

Of the 61 new ATC blog posts in 2024, these 10 had the fewest views. I give them another chance here. Two in particular, one about soil test P and another about DLI in winter, are worth a look. #TurfReads

New on the ATC website, saying goodbye to The Talking Greenkeeper and pointing out an episode that is awfully close to a Grammar of Greenkeeping seminar @hardg43.bsky.social

Here is my online handout for the "Harmonizing Turf Growth" seminar today at the #GCSAAConference. I will add additional information later based on discussions and questions that come up during the seminar. www.asianturfgrass.com/seminar/gcsa...

New post on the ATC website about the fixed rates of fertilizer that are common in research, and a growing realization on my part that grass demand for nutrients varies but the application rates don't.

New #ATC2x episode about pendulum swings in N supply and sand topdressing. Are #ClipVol, #TurfGvX, and #OM246 anything different? I suggest it will take some decades to find out, but I think they are. Also, industry veterans, historical N rates, & more #TurfHacks. https://share.transistor.fm/s/79b…

Turfgrass N rates and the anchoring effect, looking at 70 years of N rate recommendations, starting with the 1955 Northwest Turfgrass Association Conference. Full update here: https://www.paceturf.org/memberedition/historical-nitrogen-rates

Chart of the week at PACE Turf is a new one showing sand topdressing prediction, monthly, and summed annually, for 8 locations to show the concept of sand prediction by GP. Read more, and find spreadsheets to calculation this for your location, on the PACE Turf site.

I was at DMK yesterday and took a few photos from Terminal 2. See my Instagram (www.instagram.com/asianturfgra...) for more photos, going back to 2006 before BKK opened. #TurfTourism #planespotting @pgrbill.bsky.social

Did you know it's easy to predict the maximum quantity of clippings produced for a known amount of N supplied? #TurfHacks #TurfGvX #ClipVol

I've updated the handout page for my BTME presentations. This afternoon's seminar about #TurfGvX now has slides added, for anyone who wishes to review them. www.asianturfgrass.com/seminar/ctl-...

New in the PACE Turf photo gallery, showing the distinct color difference between Stenotaphrum secundatum and Zoysia japonica grown in a temperature range of 2 to 11 °C

This is 16 photos, and 1 map, and is a 6 minute read based on word count because I added a little commentary about each of the photos. #TurfTourism

I just sent an ATC update with topics ranging from turf growing environment comparison using Euclidean distance to four specific updates to the ATC soil test reports, with one fine suggestion from @johnkaminski.me now implemented. Free sign up here:

I've received a few inquiries about #clipvol and #turfGvX spreadsheets. This new PACE Turf member update has links to the PACE Turf spreadsheets. #TurfHacks https://www.paceturf.org/memberedition/spreadsheets-for-clipvol-gvx-and-gp

This explains #MLSN: "No matter what kind of grass you are growing, or in what climate, the calculation of nutrient requirement using the MLSN guidelines has already accounted for 100% of the nutrients that the grass can use."

This post about organic material accumulation in sand rootzones of different ages has been pushed out of the top 12 posts on the ATC website. It's still a good bit of information to be aware of.
