AI in the wild? This tray tissue I was given at a restaurant is full of errors and hallucinations…!

It is our pleasure to announce the 2025 Early Career Award recipients! These awards are given in recognition of scientists who have made significant contributions to the field of cognitive psychology early in their careers. bit.ly/3HTjCVi ‪@nadiabrashier @angeladebruin @yorkpsychology

If for no other reason, you should read our new paper on mixed methods in psychology because we managed to get limecat in there. doi.org/10.1177/2515...

Hey, for the first time in history, a music critic has compiled a list of their favorite albums of 2025 so far. Here are 22 records I really like this year! uproxx.com/indie/steven...

Waiting On The End Of The World: @keithcameron2.bsky.social goes very deep into the new Bruce Springsteen Tracks II box. Brilliant writing. www.mojo4music.com/articles/new...

The #SCIMaP team announces a major update: an analysis of the economic impacts of the White House's NIH FY26 budget. Bottom-line, we estimate $46B in total economic loss, 202K lost jobs, and impacts in communities nationwide. Interactive map and shareable report: scienceimpacts.org/fy26 a 🧵

It seems to me that the NFLPA comes out of this looking almost (or at least) as bad as the NFL here. Really worth watching this fascinating PTFO episode: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P42W...

The NFL and NFLPA managed to conceal a landmark ruling in a collusion case against the league for more than five months. Pablo Torre got his hands on it, and we broke it all down on @pablotorrefindsout.bsky.social www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootb...

this piece makes very clear the relationship between narcissism, domestic abuse, and the worst forms of health crankery - a dynamic manifest in RFK Jr on a grand scale.

Social scientists should not use chat interfaces when using LLMs in their research: they are impressively inefficient, and obscure/impose important methodological decisions that require thought. THREAD🧵

I’d like to just speed up to the point where big-time programs give up on the “student” part, spin off as affiliated entities for brand consistency but are otherwise legally and financially separate from academic institutions.

@drandreahoward.bsky.social, hold my beer.. Latent class growth models are worse than useless, and we've known this for more than 20 years. (See Bauer 2007)

Here’s a screenshot of the “addictive use” trajectories from the JAMA paper cited below. My educated guess from the details of the measure is that none of these lines comes close to bona fide “addictive” use 🧵

A month or two ago I read a positive review of Saya Gray's new album, "SAYA," but I'd forgotten about it until I stumbled upon her fantastic Tiny Desk concert on YouTube last night. Loved it, and bought the album first thing this morning. (Bandcamp link in reply). www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQBu...

Liquid Mike have dropped bittersweet single ‘AT&T’, taken from upcoming album ‘Hell Is An Airport’. rocksound.tv/news/liquid-...

OMFG, the HPV vaccine 😩 Having the nation's public health now led by the world's most dangerous, most extreme, & most notorious anti-vaxxer, one who has made a fortune peddling disgusting anti-vaccine lies, is going to get many people killed www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

New paper out at Journal of Memory and Language! We knew that individual differences in working memory predict source memory, but did it predict simple item recognition memory (that relied on less attention resources than source memory)? Our answer is: YES! (with @edvogel.bsky.social ) 1/5

Mind-wandering is associated with late modulation of the heartbeat-evoked potential; mind-blanking is associated with greater decoupling of heart-brain phase coupling. New findings from our radically-revised study of spontaneous cognitive & physiological dynamics www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Gotta get one of these jobs where fucking up entirely is understood as yet more evidence of my genius, like space rocket owner, university president, or pro war pundit

I wish people would listen to people who write & teach writing for a living. We know that there is something *extremely important* contained within the process of writing. Writing, editing, revising, getting feedback, sitting with your thoughts, changing your thoughts. Writing IS thinking.

Outstanding. This new tune sounds great.

The % of parents of young children in the U.S. who felt it was "acceptable for parents to hit children (30%) was significantly higher than the percentage that reported it was acceptable to hit other family members (dog, 17%; wife, 1%; parent with Alzheimer’s, 0)"

Anyone else having problems with AI use on Prolific? It's quite obvious. When I reject participants, they readily admit to having used AI and then beg me to reinstate them.

Checking new manuscript proofs. They had to hyphenate the word "prelecture" at the end of a line. Well, of course, you say, they must have hyphenated between "pre" and "lecture." Ha, no! Pr- electure -smh-

We are pleased to announce that Michael C. Hout, New Mexico State University, USA, will serve as the new Editor-in-Chief of AP&P. Please join us in extending our congratulations to Mike. bit.ly/45qjtCl #psynomAPP @michaelhout.bsky.social buff.ly/RVTq3mS

It looks like, at least for the time being, I won't be reviewing for, or submitting to, Wiley journals (they now join Elsevier).

🚨In PNAS🚨 The right often accuses fact-checkers of political bias But we analyzed Community Notes on Musk's X and found posts flagged as "misleading" are 2.3x more likely to be written by Reps than Dems! The issue is Reps sharing misinformation, not fact-checker bias... www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

the story of 2019-2024 was institutions from Silicon Valley to the police facing a modicum of accountability and radicalizing themselves into support of a leader and party who promised unaccountability

Two new Americana albums I’ve been enjoying: Ma’aM, “Out The Window” Grace Rogers, “Mad Dogs” (Bandcamp links in reply)

Ever wondered what 123 self-citations look like? Scroll no further: Hasan et al. 2021 (DOI: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2020.128668) in 'Chemosphere' show us how it's done! pubpeer.com/publications... The reference section looks stunning! Senior author Md Rabiul Awual should be proud!

Jim Reason, God rest his soul, would have just *loved* this thread on slips of action. His realisation back in the 1970s that such mundane absentminded mistakes could provide a key psychological insight into human error profoundly changed approaches to safety. www.ioshmagazine.com/2025/02/21/r...
