The best and most apt letterboxd review maybe ever

Yesterday, I wrote a really damn magnificent page and read fifty pages of a noir novel I adore. Today, both my kids are home sick, I'm on four hours of sleep, there is Mac and Cheese stuck to my left sock, and I've actually NEVER written or read a page in my life.

I heard the NEA is only considering proposals related to 1776 & the USA’s 250th birthday & I was feeling intensely patriotic, so I’m printing these really big posters inspired *directly* by the Founding Fathers The cut was carved from the masthead of a 19th century newspaper

Yes, Democrats will not put up a fight against fascism but people have always built independent power and we can too. A fantastic empowering primer by Ramsin Canon here: midwestsocialist.com/2020/10/30/o...

Nazi Literature in the Americas

No need to click. I know I live in capitalism, and have children.

Obviously the Dems will continue to do nothing so the next chapter in this story is that workers will be forced to take matters into our own hands. Unions. Strikes. We cannot afford for class war to be one sided anymore.

These three horsemen of the MAGA-tech-bro apocalypse are in the position of penthouse dwellers who think their top floor apartment doesn't rest on all the floors underneath... www.meditationsinanemergency.com/no-one-knows...

Class war.

Was American great when we lived in a post-apocalyptic gloom BEFORE the EPA? Good government is often invisible.

Reading about what's happening in DC can be paralyzing and panic-inducing. Dems not coming to the rescue, so the best way to stay sane and successfully fight the billionaire coup is to organize where we work and live. Fantastic and clear eyed piece from @lfelizleon.bsky.social

Solidarity to all the junior high & high school teachers who are teaching on Valentine's Day. On a Friday. There will be endless squeals of joy, heartbreak, melancholy, sugar crashes, envious dagger-eyes, breakdowns, dopamine spikes, and betrayal. In short, Shakespearian chaos. Good luck out there.

The oligarchs, who also fund the Democrats, should be elated with this analysis.

Oh, Jonah! apnews.com/article/chil...

All the websites erasing & destroying materials related to LGBTQ, Black, Asian, Latine, indigenous histories only confirms that the Internet is a largely failed technology, prone to acquiescence and fascism itself. It's not a record of human life, but an erasure of it, built by capital.

Thankful for this new column led by @rachellayown.bsky.social. It's a space to platform books & publishers that inform & inspire, promote orgs & writers that are doing the work to protect our right to read, and make sense of it all. Our email is open for writers looking to create out of the chaos

acquiescence is a rot

I genuinely thought an oligarchy had to have, like, more than one oligarch

Ah, OK, I get it. He watched a movie.

I think a lot about this Orwell quote. "Whereas Socialism, and even capitalism in a grudging way, have said to people 'I offer you a good time,' Hitler has said to them 'I offer you struggle, danger and death,' and as a result a whole nation flings itself at his feet."

I edited How High during lockdown and through the deaths of both of my father and grandmother. That book (and oddly virtual reality fishing) was the only thing keeping me together. Writing through chaos gave me a conduit to “talk to” and puzzle together a future when I was otherwise silent.

I'll never understand patriotism for a nation that does not have siestas.

Whoa! Just in time for my stoner comedy about Ben Franklin and Josiah Bartlett wandering Philly all night in search of a 24 hour Denny's.

Read history. Oligarchs have owned and controlled our government before. They’ve attacked oppressed groups, gone after migrants, and enacted mass violence against workers who dared resist. But people kept fighting. They organized. They built power. What we need to do is not unprecedented.

Truly such a gift to see one of your books out in the world and for it to be treated with such curiosity and joy by others! Mil gracias @maiagiladi.bsky.social !

Authoritarianism is a type of raking over of daily life, a bloodletting of joy, so now, more than ever, it’s important to stand for what expands life and joy for yourself and others. So proud of Alicia for doing just this, daily, as an artist and an art teacher for CPS. @ctulocal1.bsky.social

Simone de Beauvoir wrote of Americans in her travelogue of 1947: “They witness the rise, more ominous every day, of racism and reactionary attitudes—the birth of a kind of fascism..." zakmucha.com/blog/item/21...

The Dems and their political careerists have spent years undermining and attacking a material and serious left in the United States, and are now acquiescing to what amounts to an oligarchical coup full of Nazi boys. We are also here because of them. We need to build independent power to survive.

Smart analysis and history lesson from @michellegoldberg.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/o...

Man, I just want to play Switch 2 before the country ends.

In both cases, it’s clear we’ve let a very small amount of people become obscenely wealthy to the detriment of the rest of us.

One of the absolute best in the game!

I’m not the first to say this but at best these are Vichy years from Democratic leadership right now

It is Friday afternoon of a wild, wild week. And yet for me a reassuring one. My greatest fear was not of what they would do. It's that we would let them. And I'm seeing a lot of beautiful intransigence. From federal workers. From people all over the country obstructing ICE....

Mr. Rogers spirit still out here bullying all the billionaire tech bros.
