Wonderful Angelo Tijssens in conversation with Alex Denny about THE EDGES ('A beguiling world filled with reckoning and melancholic sensuality. A masterfully crafted novella that leaves you wanting more.’ Tomasz Jędrowsk) - a treat for your Friday afternoon:

wordswithoutborders.org/read/article... "I became a translator because I’m autistic, but the irony is, if I’d been diagnosed earlier, I likely would have never become a translator at all." I think this will ring true with many translators. #autismawareness #divergence @wwborders.bsky.social

Marie Claire's Best Books of the Year on @angelotijssens.bsky.social THE EDGES (tr. @michehut.bsky.social): It 'explores that [coming-of-age] duality – the push-me-pull-me hesitancy between child and adult, between who we wish to be seen as and what we are desperate to hide – beautifully.'

Only four weeks away from this book tour to take full swing. Join @angelotijssens.bsky.social and @michehut.bsky.social discussing THE EDGES. Big thanks to Flip Through Flanders🙌for their support in making this possible.

Congratulations to Gonzalo whose Spanish translation of Fall, Bomb, Fall is out today. We worked on our translations together in Antwerp Translators' House. Mine is coming out from Pushkin Press later this year.

Gorgeous BOTW review from Queerly Books for @angelotijssens.bsky.social's THE EDGES (tr @michehut.bsky.social): 'Its themes resonated with me in a way that few novels do—raw yet tender, it explores masculinity, intimacy, and the quiet spaces where love survives.' www.instagram.com/p/DFcv1mjiF_...

🎈Happy publication day to THE EDGES by @angelotijssens.bsky.social, tr from the Dutch by @michehut.bsky.social 'A modern masterpiece.' DAILY TELEGRAPH 'Quietly unforgettable.' DAILY MAIL 'A love story that swells with both longing and torment.' @thecrackmagazine.bsky.social

A very good start of 2025 which this incredible debut. A tender story about the human connections that makes us and that break us. Written by @angelotijssens.bsky.social and translated by @michehut.bsky.social ( @dauntbookspub.bsky.social )

www.newindianexpress.com/lifestyle/bo... Antiboy is out in India! Excellent review (except misspelling my name).

@angelotijssens.bsky.social's THE EDGES (tr @michehut.bsky.social) is out later this month & reviews are kicking off with this 5⭐treat from Mia Levitin @telegraphnews.bsky.social!! Levitin writes beautifully about the novella's purity of writing & its careful balancing of violence & tenderness:

Two of my translations on the longlist for the 2025 Dublin Literary Prize! Hup Holland!

8 van de 71 gelezen.

I've been pondering the discrepancy between perceived success and financial precarity as a literary translator. People come up to me and say, "Wow, you're doing so well! You won a big prize! It's wonderful to see you so successful!" At which point I freeze awkwardly. Um, define success? ->

Nice to see so many familiar faces joining the crowd. #metaexodus

Here we are: DELTRANS. Dutch-to-English translators getting together to discuss the sudden drop-off in work, the uses and misuses of AI, editing and publicity. Thanks to the Amsterdam Vertalershuis for hosting us. @davidcolmer.bsky.social (anyone else on bsky yet?)

The Guardian noemt ‘My Heavenly Favourite’ – de Engelse vertaling van ‘Mijn lieve gunsteling’ (Lucas Rijneveld), door @michehut.bsky.social – een van de 5 best vertaalde fictieboeken van 2024. Bravo!

Many great translators and translated titles on these short lists, but it’s always exciting to see which ones I completely missed. (That said, I’m really pulling for Christina MacSweeney and Michele Hutchison, as those two spectacular translations were among my favorites of the year.)
