Broader reminder of what happens when attacks come and we stay silent about them because we don't perceive them as affecting our specific group.

2 of 3 reviewers on my interpretive qualitative paper want intercoder reliability tests, random sample to prevent selection bias, tables w/counts, comparison to those not interviewed, & generalizability. If you are NOT qualified to review qualitative research, please say no to the journal's request.

Important thread.

It will be easy to fall into a pattern of dunking & reacting in these times. Performing disapproval can be a consuming pastime & it is not enough. Refuse to abandon vulnerable people. Build a rebellious culture of care. If you need help, @prisonculture.bsky.social and I wrote a book to assist you.

So many gems in this essay.

1/8. You might have heard that it’s a bad idea to talk about (racial) inequality and/or equity-enhancing programs and policies. Over the past few years, both scholars and pundits have argued those messages undermine support for important policies. Well, that conclusion may be a bit premature.

A few months ago some comrades and I put out a piece on Sudan’s counterrevolutionary war for which we interview 4 Sudanese and South Sudanese activists in Sudan/the region. We wanted to center the non-elitist, revolutionary voices of ppl who hve bn organizing agst the Sudanese state for decades.

Here’s a chat btwn #NikkiGiovanni & #JamesBaldwin I’ve watched a few times over the yrs. I love how deeply it centers Blackness. Both express skepticism abt Black political representation & discuss diversity of Black views abt so many topics from movements to masculinity. youtu.be/Pg2t5b0m2d4?...

Citations in economics reflect scientific influence, elitism, and racial hierarchies about who is allowed to create influential knowledge. Especially bad for Black economists. Samuel Myers, Jr. has been researching this for years, and nice to see this new contribution. www.nber.org/papers/w33150

The basic principle is that reviewers are tired, they're rushed, they're reading your and 10 other grants on top of their normal workload. Anything you can do to make it easy for them will help. Here's a list of my suggestions.

Talking to young ppl leading emergency response rooms in Darfur. Al Fashir folks 4rm Abu Shouk camp saying there are no places for ppl to get healthcare + acute hunger crisis. These folks are doing the most with very little esp. through their communal kitchens. Pls support! www.sudansolidarity.com

Excited to share a new preprint (accepted for publication in Group Processes and Intergroup Relations)! In prior work, we've found that thinking about God increase cross-religious prosociality. Here we ask: But what about when intergroup conflict is salient? osf.io/preprints/ps...

Some gems in here on how to approach discussions in the class about the elections but can generalize to a lot of what's going on around the world.
