Among the reasons I was hoping for the Pacers to win is that the way we talk about individual production is so toxic. People will be like, oh that star only scored 15, what a bum. And it’s like, who cares, the offense was clicking entirely because of him. (This applies to Ant sometimes too.)

I’ve seen a lot of this kind of sentiment and I want to be clear that all three of these trades were overpays. But these teams overpaid on picks specifically to allow them to underpay on actual talent. Luka returned just one 1st but also a literal All-NBA player. Nobody seems to mention this.
