The dvd for this was one of the best ever. So many deleted scenes it was like an entire alternate movie. And the in-character commentary by the band was incredible. Looks like they’re porting that over here, plus 2 new commentaries. Awesome! Very curious about the new movie when that comes out.

Also, reading a whole book in just 2 hours? It’s almost as though this zombie has never read a single book in their life and has no idea how long it takes. 🤔

I read this book! Could make for an interesting premise and world to build off. Curious what parts of the book they’ll leverage and how they’ll expand it to work as a series.

Yes. It’s been long enough that we can go back to the tos/tng approach - ship of brilliant, interesting characters exploring and helping ppl with science, diplomacy and sometimes phasers. Make it smart, loose the nostalgia and mix in enough small scale eps to afford longer seasons. Look at the Pitt!

I would have watched legacy. But honestly, I want a fresh start with a new crew and a new enterprise that’s a proper galaxy class ship. The idea of a floating city with families and schools and arboretums and CARPETS is way more interesting than the grey/steel militarized junk they’ve defaulted to.

They’ve really blown all momentum post JJ films. Discovery after season 1? disaster. Picard season 1 & 2? disasters. Lower decks? great and they canceled it. The new academy show is in the far future discovery timeline - who wants that? Section 31 was an atrocity. These ppl don’t understand trek!

We are truly living in a Paul Verhoven movie.

Watched brave new world last night. OOF! Nuggets of interesting ideas in there, but so bland and flat from the writing to directing. No drama no intrigue no excitement no cinema! felt like some placeholder index cards went into production. Ford was surprisingly engaged given what he was working with

Before the eventual order to euthanize and start over, Hammond first orders the “scary” dinos injected with a compound to try and make them more active and aggressive and exciting to watch. This is after the investors on this first tour are unimpressed by a sleeping and lethargic T-Rex viewing.
comment in response to post
The attempt to euthanize the scientifically accurate dinosaurs goes awry, they escape and ppl die. Hammond, not willing to except that his creation (which he spared no expense in developing) is a bad idea that endangers humanity, insists he’ll get it right next time. This is a movie about AI.

It’s so clear now how so much of what the Dems did was theatre and window dressing to appear liberal while not taking the necessary institutional steps to create and secure a just liberal government/society. They were the ones “virtue signalling” and so many fell for their theatrics. Terrible.

Conservatism. Everything they’re worried about is a bunch of made up BS.

Extra! Extra! Man who’s bad at job has bad idea! Read all about it!

I don’t think this is real gang. Did a quick search and nothing came up. It’s just text next to a photo. Where’s the source? Maybe he said it but i don’t think so. We have to be careful not to believe everything we see online just because we like how it sounds.

He didn’t write this. Too coherent.

He’s just a contrarian which hasn’t been “cool” since the 90’s if ever. Like rush limbauch, when Maher dies he’ll be instantly forgotten and people will wonder why anyone payed attention to him in the first place. He lacks substance. There’s nothing there but arrogance and contrarianism.

I don’t know how a press release like this normally sounds. But this has a real “and there’s nothing you can do to stop us mother fucker” vibe.

This is disgusting on several levels.

The craziest thing about aging is how my perception of time has changed. As a kid 2 years ago was ancient history. Now, at 42, 2 years feels like yesterday. Also things like movies that to me are catalogued as relatively recent are 10, 15 years old. Like, wolf of wall street to me is a recent movie!

The future of education under far right fascism and AI: People spending money they don’t have to accrue debt they never pay to attend a school that doesn’t teach facts where they’ll use AI to not learn and get a degree that means nothing so they can apply for a job that doesn’t exist anymore.
comment in response to post
Well that’s horrifyingly ironic. All these institutions capitulating to fascism and techno fascism in the form of AI because they think it will protect profits in the short term are only hastening their own destruction in the long term. (At this rate not so long term)

I have a dumb question. Can schools not say, and put into legal agreements, that students are not allowed to use AI to research, write, or or otherwise do their work for them, and if a student is caught violating this rule they will be expelled? Maybe 2 or 3 strikes and you’re out kind of a thing?

Bigotry, greed, and sociopathy.

I’m sure that’s a factor as well. But why do you think the Democratic Party refuses to rally behind people like AOC or Sanders? Because they rightly point the blame at the wealthy and mega corporations and want to tax and regulate them. Dems big money donors don’t want that. Follow the money.

Paradise is the first show that comes to mind. A high concept, non serialized streamer that still understood individual episodes of tv need to be satisfying in isolation, even if you’re telling a larger, season long story.

Thanks. I’m sure a smarter person can poke holes in this idea, but as a foundation it feels like the right philosophy. This whole AI catastrophe boils down to basic Jurassic Park shit - just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

I vote for Hugh Laurie as the next doctor. Would be awesome.

My pitch for an AI regulation/law: “AI must not be used to perform any task that could reasonably be performed by a human or humans.”A machine that aims to cure cancer by analyzing trillions of bits of medical data? Knock yourself out. Replace working humans, artists and journalists? Get fucked.

What’s so galling is that this is a moment in time when doing the morally right thing (fight like hell) would also be the politically popular thing. But they are so focused on protecting their corporate and wealthy donors they can’t even fathom tackling the underlying cause - unregulated capitalism.

Just imagine if Pierre had won, we’d be spending all our energy trying to save the cbc, protect LGBTQ+ ppl and other necessary things rather than having a unified focus on taking bold action to solve the myriad of real problems Canada is facing. I can’t overstate the size of the bullet we dodged.

The sick irony of using the fact these people are following the rules and obeying the law to target them. The regime will force law abiding immigrants into hiding, forcing them to evade the now weaponized laws they were trying to follow. It’s like they’re manufacturing “illegal” immigrants.

Yes! Looking at you Netflix and Disney+. If I’m listening to a podcast while I want to peruse your offerings, I don’t need to hear your startup audio stings when I open your app. Ta-dumb indeed.

You’re just a weird little law freak with a hard on for a dead bigot with delusions of grandeur.

AI people are ignorant sociopaths who think they’re smart cuz they’re “good at computer”. They don’t value what they don’t understand, because if they don’t know about something, how important could it be? But what they don’t understand is humanity, culture, and decency. And hate them.

My hope is he gets bored after a bit and starts doing something else beyond standup and acting. I’m really gonna miss him. This feels like an important part of sane, humanity centric culture is dying at a time when sanity and humanity is under constant attack. Fucking sucks man.
comment in response to post
It’s his life, but this fucking sucks. The world needs intelligent sane voices now more than ever, especially in the comedy sphere. So to lose his on a consistent basis is a big deal. I hope he stays visible and active in the media.

I don’t have the vinyl but I’ve listened to the podcast twice and I’m sure I’ll listen again. Thanks for all the creative work you do! I love watching your stuff on YouTube, especially GLTS. The John ham, Seth rogen, rich Sommer, Stephen Charleston episode was remarkable, next level stuff.

Hi! I’m a big fan. I’d like to say as Torontonian, I really appreciate all the love you’ve shown our city over the years. It’s such a compliment to our city and the crew and craftspeople who call it home that you’ve chosen to make so many of your wonderful films there. Thanks!

Everybody’s fucking broke because of unregulated capitalism and the hyper greedy rich. There I solved it. Where’s my Pulitzer?

Studios don’t know how to market movies anymore. I found out this was being made like 3 weeks ago and assumed it was still in production. Saw no press, no trailers. I’ve watched all of kobra Kai and you’re telling me Netflix isn’t selling that data to people to target me with promo for this? C’mon.

I haven’t seen the finale yet but got spoiled because I follow doctor who on YouTube and they immediately posted a video about the doctor regenerating with spoilers in the title, description and thumbnail. Like, c’mon!
