Probably better than standard face masks, which is why social distancing is more important generally. Have you ever looked up the death statistics for covid for people under 65 with no comorbidities?

Because at the time, pointing out those "inefficiencies" got you ridiculed by people even though it was correct. Saying masks were not effective with covid was frowned upon, and I think it's important for people to remember they can be wrong.

Correct but at the time people were vilified or worse for suggesting that paper masks didn't stop virus transmission (which turned out to be true). Only when research proved this did people step back and go "well they still help a little".

Fyi the virus wasn't stopped by paper masks only N95, surgeons wear paper masks to prevent spread of particulates larger than the virus was. It's a level of protection but if you really cared about this you'd be asking surgeons to wear N95 and you don't 🤷♂️
