Universities that advertised their commitment to diversity in glossy brochures & fundraising campaigns now face a reckoning: was it real or just marketing? The admin bets they’ll stay silent to keep their funding. But the cost of inaction will be far greater. greencarelab.ucdavis.edu/how-universi...

This included one of my HS best friends. He's worked for/with NOAA for 20 years, and just recently transitioned into a new role. Despite NOAA labeling him as critical and begging to keep him, his termination said he his skills/abilities/knowledge did not fit the agency's needs.

Don't forget "no research has" and "more research is needed" throughout the intro. Also critical is to NEVER interpret null findings. Always come from the perspective that null findings mean you just didn't quite figure out how to test the hypothesis in the right way. HIDDEN MODERATORS PEOPLE.

I wrote a piece for @sciam.bsky.social about why White parents should be talking to their kids about race and racism. It was so great to work with @megha.bsky.social on this piece! Please share! www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-...

NIDA has announced it, but all the NIH summer internship programs are likely cancelled. Sorry college students interested in STEM jobs, sorry high school students looking at science 🧪 careers. Trump and Musk are cancelling your futures.

Just here noting that the SAT is not a measure of intelligence. It does a reasonable job of measuring how well your schooling has done so far for you. Maybe you worked hard and did some reading. Maybe you were privileged to go to a good school. But it ain’t IQ.

Outstanding data visualization showing the severe impact of the illegal NIH freeze at the state level.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

If you don’t match to an #APPIC internship today and are wondering what next, join us Monday evening to get some tips about how to move forward with the process in Phase 2 and beyond. This is not the end! #clinicalpsychology

Our ARM study section was just cancelled. It was supposed to meet tomorrow. Told it would be rescheduled later in the year, no further information.

Same with Economics, Political Science, Social Sciences, etc!

This is such an incredible explainer of Indirect Funding! 💡 Some takeaways: 🧬 The federal science funding landscape in America was created after the US economy, security, and health by partnering with universities that would conduct research for the government. 🧵

I #standupforscience b/c there are underresourced populations in extreme distress who need EB supportive resources, like parents of sick children; there are really sick children facing life or death, who have a chance to live with clinical trials; & b/c people are suffering from disorders like SUDs

The registration portal for the 3rd annual Rocky Mountain Methodology Academy in Calgary, July 2025, is now open. As always, a day trip to Banff is included. Info at haskayne.ucalgary.ca/ccram/academy New this year is a course on experiencing sampling methods and a "Longitudinal Toolkit" bundle.

👀New preprint! In 3 prereg experiments we study how engagement-based algorithms amplify ingroup, moral and emotional (IME) content in ways that disrupt social norm learning (and test one solution!) w/ @joshcjackson.bsky.social and my amazing lab managers @merielcd.bsky.social & Silvan Baier 🧵👇

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

IES supports critical innovations in the education and well being of our nations youth. This administration's callous disregard for the role of science in a thriving society is horrendous. And I fear it's only going to get worse.

Can I interest y'all in a preprint in these trying times? My student Joy Qiu recently completed work on using ensembles of LLMs to perform coding of free text response data. A 🧵

Related to the recent discussion on VAS measurement in EMA, my student Siqi Sun recently submitted some work we did on understanding the measurement properties of more traditional Likert scales vs. VAS scales: A 🧵

For those of you interested in pulling excellent papers from this journal, I have created a public collection: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/myncbi...

I am used to reporting null results, but in this project, we actually found (& replicated!) the exact opposite of what we predicted 😅 working harder caused people to be *more* likely to gamble with their payment - we outline several speculative explanations in the paper

This kind of detailed rigorous methodological work is exactly what we need for ecological momentary assessment research. Well done.

Very excited to share our new paper, “Additive and Interactive Relations of Personality and Cognition with Externalizing Behaviors,” now accepted at Clinical Psych Science!

Great new paper from Andrea King et al. reporting an EMA study tracking real-time effects of alcohol in participants w/ & w/o AUD. Their data indicate that, even in participants with AUD (& even in those with co-morbid DEP), positive reinforcement > negative reinforcement doi.org/10.1176/appi...

This is grim. The YRBS is a critical survey to track risky behaviors in American teens. I don't understand why the current administration doesn't care about the health and well being of American children.

Ten simple rules for developing good reading habits during graduate school and beyond To me, the most important are: Read often, read broadly (incl. older papers and outside your field), and learn to read some papers in detail and others more superficially (and quickly)

I'm excited to share a new preprint: In a novel experimental paradigm, we found evidence that stress induces a computational bias during alcohol-related decision-making in favor of alcohol, but this bias was only sometimes strong enough to overcome competing considerations (e.g., taste preferences).
