I typically try to prod around qualities like curiosity and determination. Go off script, try to find something they get excited about even if it's different subject matter. Best hire lit up talking about baseball stats in R. If I can't find a data topic that gets them fired up it's a bad sign

KBO reference very pandemic triggering. Suddenly a mental image of like Jason Benetti and Jessica Mendoza broadcasting from home offices in the middle of the night trying to make sense of the Doosan Bears or whatever

I have to drive my car into the dirt because it has a 6-speed stick and a CD player and I've been informed that in a new car you can't get either one

Ha it's actually a CD! In the "liner notes" is also a QR code to an Apple Music playlist. You could tell your teens it's a living fossil, like when scientists discover a fish that they thought had been extinct for 100 million years

I've come around to the idea that single people should make holiday cards. My spin on it this year is a mixtape of my favorite new music of the year, with a QR code to a photo album. You want one?

Some friends and I have a bit where we pretend that "Griffin Canning" is the alias that Jake Peralta chooses when going undercover as an MLB pitcher on an episode of Brooklyn 99, and that Captain Holt gets really into sabermetrics

Last time I had a ticket pack was during the Cano/Cruz era. Having Robinson Cano batting .300 with a bunch of doubles and homers while Nelson Cruz was good for 40 jacks feels like a sweet and distant memory

Me: As we run up against the end of Q4, I need to know whether the team should prioritize the Energy Trust Research & Innovation Plan, or building the Electrification Pilot data pipeline? CEO tier response: yes please proceed with this

I went to the Email Like A CEO seminar. They teach you how to shift more of your responses to the left of the chart. It's mostly by lowering your reading comprehension, but still

Man, the first smoke ring reads like Jacson just got worn down by the haters. I've been reading and enjoying for years, and guess the fans are quieter than the critics. Will miss these funny, off-kilter, and sincere game recaps

I'm going to try again to hang out here and that might include some light trolling of you too Dr Gosline

a few times in the past year or so I've thought it would be fun to trade in my compact sedan for a truck, checked out a local dealer's website, and been like, wtf that's what a truck costs now?!?! Who has the money to drop $75k on an F-150?!?!

I'm the consultant who designed the LAC roster. I presented a well-received slide deck that could be summarized as: surround a Plumlee brother with aging iso guys

I tried and failed to find a picture of Michael Lewis where he looks like an embattled Metro Atlantic basketball coach, but this is a fantastic piece
