Two of the three states with the largest population of people in the U.S. illegally are the red states of Texas and Florida. Trump, notably, does not name their cities when calling on ICE to execute more aggressive immigration raids. He does, however, name LA, Chicago and New York.

This is what fascism looks like - using a conspiracy theory about a dehumanized outgroup as a pretext for seizing political power and wielding arbitrary authority. What you read about in the history books is happening right here, right now.

It’s hard to know what to say when this is all so…made up. Like, I have no idea who wrote this, if they believe it themselves, or what the goal is besides white nationalism, but once you tell me cities are into “Transgender for Everybody” I know you’re not based in any kind of reality

thank fuck, they caught him

The stupidest people are in charge because we couldn’t prosecute a political crime because it would look too political.

The president announces a federal law enforcement assault on the several population centers of America to achieve an expressly partisan political end.

one of the really challenging asymmetries in american politics is that democrats are asked to answer for the actions of every single hypothetical democratic voter in the country but republican lawmakers are not even asked about the behavior of their own elected peers

Major media have a short attention span. The huge "No Kings" protests were good for photo ops on a Saturday, and coverage was eclipsed by the Minnesota assassination. But what's really lacking are step-back stories about what 2,000 protests in 50 states mean for Trump's standing and the resistance.

Jamie Lloyd’s La Cage aux Folles

"There is a straight line from Jan 6 to the pardons to the assault on Sen. Padilla to Minnesota." A good, blunt putting-it-all-together thread here from Sen. Murphy.

MAGA Twitter is insisting that yesterday’s protests were a giant flop (we can discuss later how much they need to believe this), and they’re being assisted in this mission by much of the national press.

I scrolled the length of the NYT app just now and unless I missed it there wasn’t a single story or opinion piece on the No Kings protests. But there was this—

It’s not just Mike Lee — Bernie Moreno is pretending that a registered Republican evangelical anti-abortion Trump voter who assassinated a Democrat and had more on his hit list is a representative of “the extreme left”

I understand why Democrats are being restrained about this but the right's effort to lie about what happened here is incredibly disrespectful to the victims and requires vociferous pushback. The shooter appears to have been an anti-abortion zealot and a Trump voter. Don't let them avoid this.

Mormons don't get to pretend they're nicer and less feral than most hardcore Republicans anymore so long as they keep reelecting this John Birch Society-ass troll.

If anyone wants to politely tell Mike Lee’s staff the real political identity of this shooter, his DC office number is 202-224-5444.

Given the fact that Republicans are actively pushing the insane lie that the deaths are on *Democrats’ hands* it really is important that political leaders and the press make this case clearly.

Just a shameless liar. He’ll push the line that this was a leftist until the evidence the other way — registered Republican, homeschooling preacher, anti-abortion with a target list of Democrats — becomes too overwhelming, and *then* he’ll argue “we shouldn’t politicize this”

"raising," huh

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.

So Jamie Lloyd is a one-trick pony? Looking forward* to his Phantom that ends with Raoul in black underwear covered in blood and/or grime. *not actually looking forward to it, or anything else he directs

You can always count on The New York Times to minimize the scale and impact of protest. Yesterday's 2000+ No Kings actions smashed records for the most demonstrations in a single day. So the Times decided to publish a horseshit map of just a handful of "confirmed locations." We're not fooled.

Just an appreciation post for Jacob being on the scene. In the absence of this reporting it would have been he-said/she-said. The sheriffs attacked peaceful protestors including kids with flashbangs, tear gas, and rubber bullets. We need more peaceful protest and more documentation on the ground.

“Dr. King said early on that there is no noise as powerful as the sound of marching feet of a determined people, and I believed that. I experienced it.” - John Lewis Did you all experience that yesterday? I sure did! Link here to see pics from across the nation:

how the fuck is it possible to be this bad at drinking coffee

I can drink coffee and read a book at the same time. Hopefully this guy will get there some day.

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

10 years of obsession about what Trump supporters think & care about has warped our understanding of their size & popularity: Trump is historically unpopular, pro-democracy supporters far outnumber the object of Corporate Media’s love. Time to hear more from majority of US.

This is huge. The Trump administration wants to vastly expand the practice of shipping people to random countries they have never been to before, and are now making this part of a threat; either the countries accept taking third country nationals, or they get banned from visas.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

For years, right wingers' favorite attack on government overreach was a single memo written about a Nazi's attempt to infiltrate a far right Catholic Church, which they claimed was an attack on the Catholic Church. And now they're leading the attack.

ICE raiding a crowded supermarket in Rosemead, California with no identification, indistinguishable from cartel hitmen, pulling high caliber rifles on unarmed US citizens trying to ask questions about wtf is going on. #3E #StopICE
