I do wish that more stories about the El Salvador prison where Trump disappeared people would note that it’s only different from US prisons in that it’s in another country, not because of the conditions. People are tortured and put in grave danger on American soil every day in our prisons.

Guy who claims to be a master dealmaker can’t even strike a deal with one of his closest allies to secure the return of a man he mistakenly sent to prison?

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

I know you aren't going to want to hear this but the reason the system can deport Mahmoud Khalil and send Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador is that for years we've been executing factually innocent people like Marcellus Williams and sending legally innocent people to places like Riker's Island.

Did anyone notice that Buekele didn’t wear a tie? I thought that outraged people when Zelensky didn’t

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

First adult antlion of the season should be a holiday in any state which considers itself free

Criminals deserve due process because due process is literally how we determine whether someone is, *in fact*, a criminal

MIT following Harvard's lead here

I would not have predicted that large universities would show more courage than either Big Law or corporate media. Good for them.

Tonight while the USA sleeps, 129 million birds will fly overhead as part of spring migration. Many will be tiny, colorful visitors arriving from South and Central America, such as warblers. Migration modeling is fascinating. Yup, that’s BIRDS on the weather radar. 🌿 🪶 Learn more: birdcast.info

Let’s send food safety inspectors to the coal mines’

Tomorrow’s going to be a good stress test of the press. El Salvadoran President Bukele will visit the White House. At the press availability, every Q ought to be about Abrego Garcia: where is he now? Did US ask you to return him? etc. WH will hate, maybe try to prevent, so all should band together.

@operationanti-king.bsky.social @senategabe.bsky.social Letter to the editor published in the Naperville Sun in Illinois on April 13, 2025, calling on Representative Bill Foster IL-11 for a response that he would support impeaching Trump.

It is such a strange feeling, now that we’ve moved, to see my state in the news for something that isn’t “horrible political scandal nobody’s gonna fix.” I like it! It’s nice!

Absolutely brutal

News of the huge number of students being deported apparently for things like their social media posts makes me think we should pass a constitutional amendment protecting freedom of speech.

Today a stranger came roaring into my DMs and accused me of having the exact opposite view of the one I have Instead of flipping out on him (like I would have at another point in my life), I explained what I meant and then.. he apologized Never doubt good things can still happen on the internet

Friends, my very good friend, @mikesacks.bsky.social, is running for Congress in the NY-17th (Putnam Valley area). I vouch for him personally, and while we hardly agree on everything, he is a true believer Supreme Court reformer. And his opening ad is fire. :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=20U5...

Among a bunch of other things, bananas tariffs on goods from China are a tax directly on disabled people. Masks, feeding tubes, specialty food, durable medical equipment. I know this is bonus for this admin but incredibly fragile systems being disrupted means we’ll die.

Members of Congress should never be allowed to trade stocks. Period.

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

Good morning. Today is the 80th day that the U.S. President is running a backdoor bribery scheme in which any CEO or foreign oligarch can send him money secretly through his crypto coin scam in exchange for favors. It's the biggest scandal in the history of the Presidency.

Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that: 1. Climate change is real 2. Vaccines work 3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😤 🧪

Anyway, the people who got us here aren't going to get us out.

What's one thing 8 billion people can all agree on? That one man shouldn't have the ability to tank the global economy on a whim.

Them: The floor is dirty. Me: You have bigger problems than dirt. #meme #floor #itsallwrong

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Here is the top comment on this article: “You are advising responsible honest people who have worked hard, saved all their lives… to scale down their retirement dreams because a one person has decided to destroy the US economy. Why not write an article about how to get rid of the real problem?”

Look, I can understand why Sean Duffy was spooked by the subway: he wound up riding with a crook who only got off on a corrupt deal with the prosecutor.

My oven is a pretty standard thing but it has this feature called "rapid preheat" where it will run both the broil and the bake elements together until it's within 50° of your target. This feature is approximately 700X more useful and interesting than having it connected to the internet.

BREAKING: We're suing the National Institutes of Health over their politically-motivated purge of research grants. This is an unlawful attack on scientific progress that puts lives at risk.

Trump, Vance, and other GOP leaders speak of "cards": Ukraine doesn't have the "cards," Canada doesn't have the "cards." To me, this sounds very close to "Might makes right" -- which, in kindergarten, we were all taught to shun, I believe.

This pointless stunt by Cory Booker is accomplishing nothing but drawing attention to the Trump administration’s wrongdoing and delaying the work of the Senate and energizing the Democratic base and, wait, hang on, let me come in again

I understand that there are fires rapidly approaching a lot of us right now, & we’re all limited on attention span but fuck. The deep sea is as precious an ecosystem as the national parks, but we understand them much less. Mining them is as ruinous as mining a national park. I’m sick about this.

Massive TDOV rally expected today from 4:00-6:00 at the National Mall between 3rd and 4th streets. Go there, I know many who will be there. Be with community and show your support for transgender people. www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-n...

Sending strength and courage to all the couches in Greenland today, for no particular reason.

Sure, the idea those running the military are passing secure secrets over very insecure group chats is wild. But I guess I was most struck by how casually they decided to kill 53+ people then congratulated each other for it. RollingStone’s Nikki McCann Ramirez highlighting my reaction:

The funniest part of this era is that they’re disappearing people and plenty of folks are like “this is almost the end of democracy” like you need to collect all the McDonalds Monopoly pieces for it to count.

Another disgusting part of all of this is the proof a blatant war crime to which the Vice President of the United States responded: Excellent.
