Do you have a source for this claim, or is this just a feeling?

Congrats! Writing a book is no small feat, and MIT press is a top quality publisher.

Not that I want to defend AI's takeover of human decision making, but I suspect that language models will be much better at working with theories and models in ways that we humans haven't considered, because we are constrained by incentives created by culture and funding.

I agree completely. Best way to learn something as an adult is to try things you don't understand. Some things don't interest you and that's fine. Other things you find fascinating and then you get driven to understand all the math and mechanics of why that thing is the way it is.

But in fairness, that trend seems to be long-term, and might look like a straight line in a log plot.

That's why I'm on bsky now, lol. Was writing about using python to solve optimization problems with calculus.

When I was a PhD student, I borrowed a book from a professor and accidentally dropped it on a rainy street. I felt bad at the time, but perhaps I should have felt good about helping her learn this important lesson.

Most people think Sudoku is about finding the numbers to go into each cell. The Masters know that it's actually about eliminating the numbers that cannot fit.

There's some inflation with that metric. I'm going to have to claim that I'm in the top 1.9%.

Lol, I read this too fast and thought it said the most _bizarre_ introduction to FMRI. But maybe that would also be a good idea...

Interesting take, but that would rule out most of the abstract&theoretical mathematics and sciences, without which we wouldn't have all the technology we now take for granted. Also, most neuroscience is grounded by empirical data, which comes from the physical world.

I agree. Better to highlight quality services with timely delivery, rather than cheapest option available.
