The latest on the IMLS and why we need to be taking America 250 really damn seriously: buttondown.com/wellsourced/...

SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS...Michigan Humanities has already halted roughly $600,000 worth of planned local grants and other statewide programming, said Jennifer Rupp, president and CEO of Michigan Humanities. Without federal funding, she said the council will likely have to close by fall 2025.

A big win in Michigan against book banning. www.mlive.com/news/grand-r...

Thank you!

We have an AG with a cape! Thank you @dananessel.bsky.social

My retirement savings!

Among the thousands of groups affected by the sudden cessation of funds are state arts councils, museums, historic sites, archives, libraries, educators and media outlets in all 50 states.

In Latest Moves, Trump Administration Cancels IMLS Grants, Threatens Title I Funding www.slj.com/story/Trump-...

NEW: In a letter sent to the Institute of Museum and Library Science's Acting Director, the Board of Directors for the IMLS demands answers about what's going on right now and what the agency's future responsibilities will include. bookriot.com/imls-board-o...

“We will not be lost forever.” In her poem Death or Life, Inside or Outside the Maze, Ma Thida reflects on repression and resilience in Myanmar. Her words, written during unrest and revisited after the earthquake, are a call for hope. PEN International stands with all those affected.

Questions I have about the dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the firing of staff and termination of current contracts - Who will file the lawsuit? When will a lawsuit be filed? Sooner rather than later please! Anyone? Anyone?

Anticipated, but still angry at the outcome.

JUST IN: The staff of the Institute of Museum and Library Services was placed on administrative leave this morning, following a meeting between IMLS leadership and DOGE staff.

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

Rep. Titus and Rep. Bonamici are circulating a letter asking the administration to reconsider cutting the Institute of Museum and Library Services. 📢 ☎️ TODAY, please CALL your Representative to ask them to sign onto the letter. More info and example script at www.milibraries.org/imls

MORE: Senators Jack Reed, Lisa Murkowski, Kirsten Gillibrand, & Susan Collins all joined the letter to the interim director of IMLS. Library advocates are making their voices heard. Congress is listening. ALA applauds this bipartisan action. Read our full statement: www.ala.org/news/2025/03...

In total, the state could see an annual loss of $10 million distributed among hundreds of public, school, and academic libraries as well as museums and historical organizations. #FUNDLibraries #SaveIMLS 📰🔗👇

Keeping the dismantling of the IMLS in the media here in Michigan - our 11 library cooperatives are sharing the message loud and clear of the importance this agency provides for the benefit of all citizens!

Uncertainty if staff or funding will still be there after the weekend for IMLS.

"Library funding draws less than 0.003% of the annual federal budget yet has enormous impact in communities" @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social has a good FAQ about what is happening with/to IMLS; helpful as we decide what to say to our reps, what to put on our signs. www.ala.org/faq-executiv...

Modest funding from IMLS goes a long way to connect our communities. The impactful use of $4.8 Million of LSTA Federal Funding, allotted by IMLS through the Grants to States Program to the Library of Michigan.

Today, the Michigan Department of Education provided an official statement about the executive order to abolish IMLS. @milibraries.bsky.social @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @michiganpublic.bsky.social @debbiedingell.house.gov @slotkin.senate.gov @peters.senate.gov Read more: tinyurl.com/btadh2ym

Trump administration seeks to starve libraries and museums of funding by shuttering this little-known agency

UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Education has officially spoken out against the executive order to abolish the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Read the press release: www.michigan.gov/mde/news-and...

So fortunate to have Lisa’s wisdom and passion at the helm! You go, girl!

Very wise words.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services - the only federal agency that provides resources to our nation’s libraries, museums, and archives - is at risk. Read the joint statement from Michigan Libraries, Museums, and Archives to learn more and get involved. #SAVEIMLS 🔗 ow.ly/vyZS50VkiI7

Trump urged to reconsider order gutting agency that gives grants to libraries, museums kentuckylantern.com/2025/03/17/r...

To our local arts and cultural organizations, artists, our libraries, our museums and festivals...funding from the NEA, NEH, IMLS is significant (they have always done more with less) but in the overall scheme of the overall budget of US, I agree, it is a "ridiculously measly pittance." Hands off!

Through the ineptitude of the current administration, we are seeing our public institutions decimated right before our eyes. Standing strong to support our libraries!

Agree..this is a literal dismantling - it will be gone before we know it.

The library and the post office are the only two systems we have that circulate things widely and to everyone, no matter who they are or what they believe. The library is the only one that, for now, is not forced to pay for itself at point of sale. Attacks on IMLS are attacks on every one of us.

In a new executive order, Trump has targeted the federal agency charged with distributing congressionally approved funds to state libraries and to library, museum, and archives program grant recipients. www.everylibrary.org/statementiml...

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen. Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it. Full EO: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
