I agree in general, but a bit of nuance, please: ‘some’ old men. (Written as a 64 year old; or perhaps that’s not old 😉).

I’m not sure it’s a ‘risk’. As it’s Truss/ Kwarteng on steroids, it’s a racing certainty.

She seems to get worse by the day. Yesterday’s R4 fiasco - effectively complaining about being asked questions - and now this. Has she got a bet on being sacked?

I do understand your sentiment towards Badenoch, but let’s not forget all her toxic, culture wars BS. That’s unforgivable.

A massive opportunity wantonly wasted.

No, no - they would be ‘expats’, quite different!

I’m so pleased I’ve found you on BlueSky: great stories told in simple (said as a compliment) graphics!

A genuine question to help me decide whether public ownership is a good idea: if these companies are renationalised, do we (the taxpayers) get saddled with their mountains of debt?

It’s been difficult to summon much enthusiasm for the Labour government, but this - and some other recent announcements - give cause for cautious optimism.

I’m not opposed to a wealth tax, but I do have a comment about these data. I’m one of the 3.06 million millionaires because the value of my house puts me in that category. I guess most ‘millionaires’ are in the same position, and can’t leave easily. I wouldn’t anyway btw; paying tax is a good!

A beautiful gesture from his colleagues, but shocking that he needed their help.

I think we need many more ‘attention seekers’ then, don’t we?!

You might know this, but there’s a stunning book, ‘One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This’ by Omar El Akkad on Gaza (but more broadly, Western hypocrisy/ indifference to Palestine). Its title chimes with exactly your point.

I love this. Every day I search for a good news story to counterbalance all the grim stuff. This is today’s - thanks for sharing.

She and most of her colleagues are a useless waste of space. Do the Tories really think our memories are so short?

In other news, bears s**t in the woods, and Pope still Catholic (although according to QI, the latter isn’t true!).

I’ve never looked at it that way; an awesome observation!

Exactly so. But, as you know, this is a prime example of short-termism; the cost of proper SEND provision is up front, while the savings are years away. The Treasury is largely myopic when it comes to this sort of thing.

Great question!

I really hope this is what it seems. We’ve been so badly scarred by 14 years of the Tories’ announcements which were all smoke-and-mirrors.

Who would have thought that they’d be an utter shambles?

Exactly so! Who is Farage to tell us what the intelligence services are for? They’re ours (including members of the LGBTQ+ community), not his.

They are such a joy - and, sadly, increasingly rare.

Exactly. I don’t know if you’re based in the UK, but since 1979 our preeminent political philosophy (initiated by Mrs Thatcher) has been that only three things really matter: me, myself and I. Hence the mess we’re in.

You’re right, and (unsurprising full disclosure) I sometimes drive over the speed limit. But I’m also aware of the laws of physics and the impact (literal and metaphorical) of speed and a tonne of metal hitting a human body.

I try to find a positive news story each day to counteract all the grim stuff happening in the world. This video is today’s; thanks for sharing.

This is such great news. We had PVs installed 18 months ago; retrofitting is always more expensive, but at current rates we’ll break even after 7.5 years. And the CO2 savings are great.
This initiative is long overdue, but still immensely welcome.

I’ve been obsessed (in a good way!) with Radio 4 and ‘Today’ for decades, but have given up listening in recent years because of its awful news content. This is a prime example.

In the UK General Election in 1997 the Tories lost a seat by two votes. An appeal to the High Court resulted in a by election - which they lost by 21,556. If it comes to it, I hope our Australian friends send the same message to your Libs.

Not wanting to be smug, but I’m one of those with solar panels on their roof, and it’s been particularly joyful to track our electricity production this spring. The sooner PVs are mandatory on new builds, the better.

To add to the confusion, I am not ‘white British’ by this definition because I was born in the UK to immigrant parents. But my wife, born in France to French parents who didn’t emigrate to the UK, is ‘white British’ because her parents weren’t immigrants! Madness.

Exactly. I don’t see why the concept of both statements being correct is difficult to understand. Therefore, the likely explanation is that people are doing this to push their own agenda.

I still recall, with horror, his ‘Breaking Point’ advert during the Brexit referendum. Another infamous example of his racism.

I share your pain! My choice would be The Marriage of Figaro, but read up on it in advance. I used a wonderful book: Famous Mozart Operas by Spike Hughes. Hopefully it’s still in print. The ‘Figaro’ section is about 30 pages, and easily digestible for a non musician like me.

An additional culprit is the CMO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, quoted as saying: “We titled [the session it was presented in] As Good as a Drug. I would have retitled it Better than a Drug, because you don’t have all the side-effects.” The study doesn’t show that at all!

Jenrick’s latest idea: arm prison officers so as to protect them from terrorists et al. Someone should ask the simpleton what happens when violent prisoners wrest those weapons from the guards.

I know my approach to this is ostrich-like, but I simply can’t bring Museum watch it. It’s simply, from what I’ve read, likely to be too painful.
