I would be absolutely shocked if they gave him any sort of deal that included more than two years of guarantees. I would be mildly shocked if they gave him a deal they couldn’t get out of after one year. Most likely plays on the tag if he stays in Minnesota. Kwesi loves flexibility.

I don’t think there is any scenario where they trade JJ McCarthy. Kwesi knows how valuable that contract is and will want to remain open to turning it over to JJ at some point. Any scenario where they keep Darnold on the team, they will want to keep long term flexibility.

"I would not stand up here and tell you that a lot of boxes have been checked in my mind and in J.J.'s mind if that was not true," O'Connell said. "Now he just has to work through this process so that when his time does come, he's healthy and he gets to take the reins of this thing."

“J.J.'s confirmed to me and a lot of our coaches and players that we've got the right guy in the building for the future."

Since the topic is unavoidable, could you please explain the different variations of the franchise tag and the cap implications if the Vikings did tag and trade Darnold? Getting a refresher on the different options would be helpful.

Why would it be closed? Many thought that letting Kirk walk was closing the window. Surprise! Maybe JJ McCarthy plus 40 million will make the Vikings good?

I do not

What point are you trying to make with the graphic?

So just be to clear, you’re trying to suggest that Darnold is better than Mahomes (who is coming off two straight SB championships) based on counting stats during a one year sample size?

And?

Need Tyler Conklin to score a TD this weekend

I don’t think they considered the ability to get someone like Kirk for vet minimum

I think the Stefanski connection is what makes the Browns happen

Ben, do you really think the Vikings would tag Darnold and then hold him through free agency until the draft hoping for a trade? Feels like that 41 million would really limit their options in free agency and their whole team building strategy plotting for a trade that may not even happen...

Right but they deferred a bunch of the money from their FA signings to future years to do that. It’s artificial.

Let’s see him when he is carrying the franchise on his shoulders getting paid 15% of the salary cap (or let’s not)

I’d like to hear how it’s different? Sam is currently a lot cheaper?

KOC elevating a QB who wouldn’t have the same success elsewhere. It’s the same thing.

You’re essentially one of the Kirk Stans with Darnold now

And for the record, I wasn’t always perfect and had moments where I lost my cool, but I took some time to course correct and now have a much healthier relationship with sports discourse.

Just think of all the players they can get if they don’t pay Sam 41 million
