From a FOIA perspective, "the entire federal workforce should write down and email what they did last week" is extremely funny

Sending an email to employees asking them to list five things they did that week is a classic move from a manager who has no idea how to manage

They'll have to hire back half the layoffs to read the emails.

The stock market is clearing its throat.

— Accidentally fired workers trying to contain bird flu — Accidentally fired workers overseeing our nuclear stockpile — Accidentally fired workers providing health care to Native Americans “Accidentally.” More like gross incompetence and mismanagement. Opposite of efficient.

"We are the law"... not how that works.

Anxiety is building.

looking back everything went to shit when Schoolhouse Rock stopped airing

Perhaps the luster is off

Numbers go down and suddenly everyone rediscovers their spine

Let's concede that all we can do is collectively throw our hands in the air and offer our thoughts and condolences to the Republic.

I hope Rubio enjoys being the Secretary of State overseeing the US's global retreat from supporting liberal democracy.

Until Democrats create an opposition movement worthy of this moment, I will keep supplying ideas. My latest calls for Democrats to show up at public and media appearances alongside an American who has been hurt by the coup. quartzevelyn.substack.com/p/democrats-...

I wrote a book called "It Was All A Lie" that made the case that Republicans never really believed in their freedom and democracy rhetoric. It was all just marketing slogans. Watch how many call out Russian agent Donald Trump openly siding with Putin. It was all a lie.

To be an effective opposition party, Democrats must do just that—be a party. Their current approach is like asking a few star players to go win a championship while the rest of the team sits on the bench. It doesn’t work.

Bernie Sanders: "The struggle against Trump, the struggle against oligarchy, which is led by Elon Musk ... that's not gonna be won here in Capitol Hill. It's gonna be won by millions of people all over this country standing up and saying, 'we fought and died for democracy.'"

The case for Democrats to start holding televised, primetime opposition hearings featuring civil servants fired by Trump & Musk, Americans hurt by baseless cuts, and scholars on authoritarian regimes. quartzevelyn.substack.com/p/the-urgent...

If you voted for Trump, does this feel like winning?

MTG and the Admin are trying to portray DOGE as getting rid of wasteful spending - when it's not that. It's a fundamental destruction of the Federal government to remake it so it only works for a connected few and provides no checks on the Presidency.

There should be nothing conciliatory from the dems at this DOGE hearing today.

3 and a half weeks in and Trump doesn't have a plan to lower prices. He probably won't have one until Musk tells him what it is.

The quick shutdown of USAID abandoned patients with experimental devices and drugs in their bodies with no way to remove them in time. How many people are going to die because of the Trump/Musk mismanagement? What’s the DOGE Death Toll? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

None of this will be discussed at the DOGE committee hearing today. That'll only focus on a stupid culture war that won't impact the public's pocketbook.

Imagine if @aoc @sanders.senate.gov , every dem, SIMULTANEOUSLY held Town Halls where they allowed grant and contract recipients to explain to the country what it is they do and why it's important Invite all media. Including RW podcasters. @spaces Flood the zone Call it a Day Of Transparency

An argument for Democrats in Congress to hold a daily briefing during this national crisis. quartzevelyn.substack.com/p/the-people...

"Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us...I don't think there's a lot of Americans who wake up in the morning and say 'Damn Canada'"

Ive said this before. Unions have a moment in time to create parallel, Non Profit Trust or Associated Health Plans and offer them to small to medium size businesses. Unions can negotiate far better than SMBs or associations . Imagine if millions got their healthcare from unions ? Thoughts ?

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period. I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt. But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are

Just to clear up any Trump world fantasy that Donald Trump has a mandate, his current approval rating of 47% is the second lowest of any new president in modern history. The lowest was Trump in his first term. www.presidency.ucsb.edu/statistics/d...

The United States, the American Dream, the Constitution, and the rule of law have withstood many stress tests. But never before have we been tested like we will be these next four years. Too big to fail? We can only hope.

Like who got in Trump's head about Canada?

This guy won the election and all he does is whine about it.

Happy New Year!

Beef Wellington is just a corn dog from a different socioeconomic background.

If the GOP is finding it's tough to get a lousey CR passed because it has too much stuff in it, wait until they see how hard it is to cut things. Every single program has a constituency and a rationale for its existence. Tossing 25% of the budget is going to make a lot of voters angry.
