Pope Francis’s "Urbi et Orbi" Easter speech: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalized and migrants...I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others.”

A great man is gone. RIP.

Happy Easter, EVERYONE!! 👇 Seemed. Appropriate. Today. 😎✨

Pope Francis lifted the world as he led the Church with his profound moral voice. As he returns to God, may his call to humility and concern for the least among us continue to resound.

Politico reported the news of top staff being fired, but not the stakes should the United States or our allies be attacked. www.politico.com/news/2025/04... I don’t see any story at all about these Friday firings in the @nytimes.com or @washingtonpost.com, or what they mean for national security.

The delta between ongoing civic emergencies, constitutional crisis, & authoritarian takeover I documented in Washington this week & the front pages of the nation’s newspapers I saw this morning in Rehoboth is jarring. One of the reasons we are in this mess: Editors failing to make the threats clear.

🎯 “I don’t think it’s ever wrong to protect the Constitution & protect due process rights.”— @vanhollen.senate.gov abcnews.go.com/Politics/van... “Anyone that’s not prepared to defend the constitutional rights of one man when they threaten the constitutional rights of all doesn’t deserve to lead.” 🇺🇸

RIP, Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Pope Francis urged us to find grace, compassion, & love for all of God’s children. His humility & focus on the poor & refugees in life & papacy was a counterweight in a world awash in anger, hate, fear, & inequality.

Of course he does.

Pope Francis earned the title “The People’s Pope” by showing kindness and mercy, standing for love above hate and extending a hand to help all people. He led by example, and his humility and dedication to God brought people together. His loss is great, but his impact is greater.

"Today’s builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of hell." [Pope Francis, 18 April 2025]

Pope Francis was a remarkable man of compassion, humility, and grace. He led the church like he led his life, with unwavering faith and care for those who need it most. May he rest in peace.

I care less about Signal chats and more about the blacksite offshore concentration camps we're sending random people to without any semblance of a trial, so I'll be interested to see if the national media can rub their bellies and pat their heads at the same time this week. Historically they can't.

“In their haste to comply with apparent directives from Trump, universities became unwitting handmaidens of the deportation machine.” theintercept.com/2025/04/17/i...

Kilmar Garcia was mistakenly deported. The WH mistakenly sent a demand letter to Harvard. A US citizen was mistakenly arrested and held by ICE in Florida. ... these aren't mistakes. They're tests.

Don’t miss our exclusive reporting: We did an investigation to Trump envoy Steve Witkoff’s business dealings and found that he has active business projects with a man sanctioned by Ukraine for national security purposes www.counteroffensive.news/p/scoop-trum...

Francis was the best Pope of my lifetime. He occupied the top of a powerful hierarchy while still challenging it. He provided a moral reminder of the values of decency, humility and empathy towards the vulnerable in a role, and at a time, where it easy to lose sight of those values.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there was a huge turnout in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the federal courthouse. From my seat in the jury room, I heard the supporters outside chanting throughout the hearing.
