I once had my purse snatched at the grocery store (I learned NEVER to set it down in the cart EVER AGAIN) after going to the ATM. I had more than $700 in there. And I'm not rich. That was in 2002. The inflation calculator says that'a more than $1200 in today's dollars. So...

I'm a childless widow with health issues, retired. Social Security isn't much. And I had to sell my PAID OFF home when hubby became disabled in his 50s (Early Alzheimer's). So, I care about my 401K a lot, but I also care about tyranny, injustice. We all know an empty wallet = disaster.

Yeah, if he were consistent, he'd say, "No one will profit in the US from things that cause cancer, COPD, high cholesterol, obesity, etc." But considering the prez loves his diet coke and fast food burgers..... won't go over well....LOL
I'm so tired of rich assholes.

What will energize? I am hoping the fence-sitters will be affected by this tyrant enough, frightened enough ,they go against any MAGA. But how many Americans fear change a lot? I keep hearing how bad universal healthcare, living wage as a racket is from folks who criticize some MAGA. Fear change.

There are both. You assume it's only one war.

I went from very conservative to pretty progressive, so one can learn. :D

Because part of a politician's job--any leader except a tyrant, I guess--is to reach across the aisle AS possible. But where you and I agree is that this president and this time is not a time for compromises (or for very few). This is a tyrant in charge and tyrants need to be fought vigorously.

Like Oz's "people have a duty" to work to be healthy so they don't use health care monies/resources. Yeah, blame the sick.

Some people are sick of the status quo. Obviously, the change many of us want is absolutely contrary to the change many other want. The division is real. Hence, we have to find common ground to at least get rid of the worst. There IS a culture war. It's real.

Trump's polling sucks, too. I'm guessing Americans are just fed up with politicians, period.

Sorry, but in real life. you sometimes have to HOPE for the lesser of two evils. Last election, some dems/libs were all divided instead of saying, "This candidate may not be perfect, but better than an evil shit like Trump." That's how life is. You sometimes INCREMENT. Tax the rich: I approve.

No, no. It's more complex. It's alcohol, bigotry, and sharing attack plans with random people.

He apparently already has the "we are in a dictatorship" mentality when he decides trans people can't exist, the undocumented don't get due process, and diversity, equity, and inclusion just don't exist anymore. Yeah....tyrants be tyrants. #Hegseth is evil. Like his boss.

For various reasons. One has to find the REASONS that will pull t hem away and see their own benefits at play. You don't get voters' votes without making them see how change benefits.

Schumer does need to "man up." But if it's a choice between deranged MAGA GOPers and soft GOPers, I know what I would choose.
comment in response to

Except his GOPers would vote for him to do it. Their constituents want it. MAGA madness.

And it may also be clever outreach: they need to reach white folks, the ones who keep supporting Trump and company (the MAGA governors, etc). Poor white may dismiss gender/sexual/racial stuff as "not aimed at me." But go after the super-rich and super-powerful...that may REGISTER.

Perhaps 'cause in light of billionaire Trump in power, and billionaire Musk firing masses offederal employees and calling SS a ponzi scheme, and tech billionaires bowing to Trump, maybe plutocracy is better, but an oligarchy does sure seem to be relevant. I'd like for us to STOP electing the uberrich

The most important thing you can do is visibly do things that make sense for you and who you are and where your skills and capabilities lie.
If someone sees you, they will think "oh, it's okay, I'm not alone."

Seeing a conservative circuit court and a Reagan appointee judge tell off Trump was beautiful and encouraging in this dark time.

He certainly is not perfect. But when all the GOP were kowtowing to him...he voted to impeach. That took balls. When the Repubs were kissing King Trump's butt, he criticized him. You can say all this here on Bluesky. He said and did it before the world.

I finished growing up in Miami (from the South Bronx). In 1975, a white classmate told me he wouldn't be back next school year cause his family was moving up some counties cause Miami was getting too black and too Latino, according to his parents. Well, 70% Latino now is a lot. :)

Well, some white people have been victims: gay, trans, disabled, the poorest/least educated. His partnering on those rallies with Ocasio-Cortez felt good to this biracial Latina immigrant-turned-citizen.

Interestingly, most people commented on that and some of his school friends jokingly called him "Charlie Brown." But a lack of vowels is hard for Hispanic folks not used to English. It sounded like "Chah Shoo" when they sdaid it. LOL So, we all just called him "Carlito" and it stuck. He liked it.

I grew into it. I go mostly by my family nickname--Mirtika--& if people can't roll the "r" I just say, "Call me Mir, like the old space station." But when you're young , it bothers. Interestingly, my parents couldn't say hubby's name: Charles, or his germanic surname: Schultz. Not enough vowels. LOL
